Chopin had an irrational fear of being buried alive and therefore requested that his heart be removed after his death... just to make sure! His dying wish was fulfilled and his heart, preserved in alcohol, was later taken back to Poland by his sister where it was buried inside a pillar of the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw.
