Fratelli Boffi furnishes the cafeteria of the new Design Supermarket in Milan Fratelli Boffi has also taken part in the birth of one of the new Milanese locations devoted to design. The eclectic Italian brand, a prestigious producer of furnishing accessories and leader in the crafting of wood, has been chosen by Martino Berghinz to make the seating for the cafeteria designed by him inside the new Design Supermarket on floor -1 of La Rinascente. Conceived to familiarise the public with design and inaugurated in July 2009, Design Supermarket is a 2000 m2 space offering a vast choice of products including giftware, lighting, electronics, leatherware and kitchenware. The area devoted to the sale of objects is completed with the cafeteria positioned around the escalators leading to the floor and stands out on account of the bright purple and elegant black, becoming an ideal place to relax and take a meditative break. To contrast with the futuristic aspect of the environment as a whole, Martino Berghinz wanted the period flavour and traditional tone of the wood creations by Fratelli Boffi. The company has therefore proposed a series of pieces with a Classical appearance, at the same time enriched by more modern finishes and details: the chairs and benches are in fact made of chestnut heart wood with a sanded and dyed finish; the upholstery covering the seat and back, on the other hand, is purple imitation leather. Fratelli Boffi products take up the tones of the counter of the bar, creating a harmonious chromatic effect with the delustred transparent black resin floor on which, like a white chalk drawing on a blackboard, stylised geometric forms create an interplay of triangles and pointed profiles, a decorative motif that is repeated on the plenum above the counter and on the walls. The vertical iron tubing grids conceived to demarcate the space in an original way take up the same motif, yet this time it is developed three-dimensionally, producing a curious effect, leaving the wall free, from which emerges the back-lit purple polycarbonate counter with black glass top. In this futuristic space, the pieces by Fratelli Boffi give a touch of romanticism and stand out as though they were bright violets in a meadow. Once again Fratelli Boffi, mindful of its past collections, uses its decades of experience along with inspiration and imagination to distinguish it and have fun.
