Introduction

There are some six solar music fairs/festivals around the US, but none closer than Atlanta, Georgia

Florida Tech fair uses wind as well as solar energy Are there any other fairs using wind energy?

Our wind/solar system provides up to 340 watts peak internal audio power and up to 1800 watts at 120 volts a.c. to power other external equipment, such as sound instruments, speakers and efficient lights; eight batteries provide power after darkDVD, VCR, CD, and computer sound is availableA television can show computer programsProjection video is possible at night

Florida Tech’s DMES Mobile Renewable Energy/Meteorological Field Station FS-1

We have constructed a trailer station carrying a 35-ft tower with an 800-watt wind turbine and an anemometer plus a 300-watt PV module

(The author [shown] is 5’ 8” tall)

An auxiliary 300 watt solar module can be added for more energy collection

A datalogging computer captures the weather and power data for later analysis

This transportable station provides student training in the operation of an independent field instrumentation site

Conclusion

Solar music fairs spark general public interest in sustainable living and renewable energyThe festival provides a good opportunity to educate the

public and local school students about a better environment and clean energy

Students benefit from the novel idea, which opens their vision to what could be in their future

There are very few solar music festivals or fairs in the United States, thus the unusual concept leads to greater attendance

Florida Tech enhances the community involvement by presenting events that attract the public on campus
