Celebrating those who accelerate change

Opening Message

It’s been 30 years since EY named the first winners of the Entrepreneur Of The Year™ program in the United States. Today the EOY program continues to fulfill its mission of celebrating the many business leaders who have had the audacity to transform their industries and their communities.

The EOY Mexico program was launched in 2010 to celebrate Mexico’s stories of business leadership, innovation and talent that are as exciting and inspirational as

those of any country in the world. We admire the disruptive drive of entrepreneurs who follow their dreams and leverage capabilities to create jobs, strengthen markets and positively influence society.

Entrepreneurs have also shown us that success is more rewarding when it is purpose-driven. Seeing beyond the financial incentives of entrepreneurship opens the door to new ways of seeing innovation and growth. It also strengthens our business values and leads entrepreneurs to true greatness.EY also has a purpose: to build a better working work, and it is because of this purpose that we do what we can to encourage more leaders to follow in the footsteps of these successful entrepreneurs and become the true agents of change that we need today.

30 years globally7 years in Mexico

Economic innovation and dynamism is largely born out of the creative energy and tenacity of entrepreneurial talent. The way that entrepreneurs strive to create business models that challenge the common market

wisdom and forge their own path to success is something to be celebrated. It was this idea that lead to the creation of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ (EOY) program, which unlike other business award programs, doesn’t just celebrate new businesses that are disrupting the status quo, but also honors the business leaders who had the vision for the new business and the audacity to turn it into reality.

The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program was launched 30 years ago in the United States and it is currently held in more than 60 countries worldwide where EY does business. The first edition of the EOY program in Mexico was held in 2010 and since that time the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ (EOY) Mexico program has become a distinguished space for honoring the many business leaders and entrepreneurs of today who strive to innovate, who fuel the economy, and who generate most of the country’s new jobs.

In the seven years that the program has been held in Mexico, EY has received more than 900 nominations through its nationwide public call for nominations and it has named 260 finalists from a total of 218 companies. Among other requirements, finalist companies need to have been operating in the market for at least three years and they also need to report annual sales of at least 25 million Mexican pesos. After successful completion of the documentation and interview stage of the program, candidates are evaluated by a panel of independent judges comprised of prominent academics, business leaders and active members of the business community, who conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the nominated business, the entrepreneur’s background, and

EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™

the financial performance of his/her company based on the four pillars of the Entrepreneur Of The Year program:1. Vision: Conceiving a business idea and successfully bring it to life.2. Leadership: Having the charisma, character and drive needed to inspire and succeed.3. Execution: Taking a business concept from an idea to a working endeavor through ongoing innovation.4. Social responsibility: Policies and initiatives benefiting both business and community

Many of the finalists of the past editions of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Mexico program lead some of today’s most dynamic companies, including Banco Compartamos, Distrolter, Africam Safari, Banco BASE, Hoteles Marquis, Volaris, Ingenia Muebles, Gonher, Café Punta del Cielo, Genomma Lab Internacional, Kidzania, El Bajío, Alazraki Films, Monte Xanic, Los Danzantes, Mister Tennis, Hoteles City, Tanya Moss, FINSA, HELVEX, Unifin Financiera, Daniel Espinosa Jewelry, IOS Offices, Grupo Fuflsand, Pack2go Logistics, Grupo Anderson’s, Devfyn, Natgas, Mamma Bella, and more.

The entrepreneur who the panel of judges eventually names the winner of the Consolidated category will becomes the National Winner and will go on to represent Mexico at the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year event that is held each year in Monte Carlo, Monaco. In addition to attending a series of conferences and panels on topics of interest, the winners from each country also participate in work sessions as they enjoy ongoing networking opportunities and gain international media exposure. The event culminates with the announcement of the

World Entrepreneur of the Year selected by the panel of judges. The past National Winners of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Mexico program include:

One of the ongoing benefits for entrepreneurs who participate in the EOY program is that they are included in EY’s global studies of market trends and perspectives on the future, which provide critical to insight to help business leaders make better decisions. Some of the program’s past entrepreneurs have had the opportunity to share their experiences through a number of dynamic venues, including the Strategic Growth Forum™, and they continue to enjoy continued access to a number of global contact networks, such as the EY Global Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program is the perfect platform for fomenting dialogue and collaboration among the key players of Mexico’s business ecosystem, as it also inspires a new generation of entrepreneurs to enable their innovative sprits to transform their businesses and their communities. EY believes in the power of entrepreneurship to change the world and celebrating the achievements of these daring business leaders is one of the ways we are fulfilling our aim of building a better working world.

A clear vision:

Creating lifelong

According to Frank Devlyn, Chairman of the Board of Devlyn Holding and Grupo Devlyn, Ópticas Devlyn has become the industry leader in Mexico by getting to know its customers and turning them

into lifelong patrons.

A keen believer in healthy competition as a force for reaching new heights day in and day out, Frank credits each of the 5,000 employees at Devlyn’s 200 branches as being critical to the company’s success.

Frank Devlyn started working at his family’s small business at the age of 22. Thanks to Frank’s hard work and the unyielding support of his mother and brothers, Jesse and Patricio, he was able to grow Devlyn into a cross-border business. Today the Devlyn Group has branches in Guatemala, El Salvador and the United States.

Although Frank’s story is one of unrivaled business success, he sees his work with the civic organizations that he is associated with as being just as important as his professional accomplishments. Frank has received many national and international awards, including the awards given to him by The Rotary Foundation in recognition of his work promoting Rotary International programs around the world. In addition, Frank will represent Mexico at the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year ™ 2017 Forum that will be held in Monte Carlo in 2017, where he will have the opportunity to tell his story and showcase his business model.

Devlyn FoundationThe Devlyn Foundation was created to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the most underprivileged members of society through four separate assistance programs:

Giving the gift of good vision. Through this program, the foundation repairs

glasses donated by customers, companies and suppliers and delivers them to low-income families at its so-called “sight drives”.

Rounding Up. Through the Rounding Up program, the Devlyn Foundation is able to collect

donations in alliance with other social organizations through Grupo Devlyn’s 800 plus branches.

2020 Vision. This program was launched in October 2010 as part of the World Sight Day and its aim is to raise awareness regarding the importance of eye screening as a means for promptly detecting vision problems.

Education. The purpose of this program is to support the development of the eye care field by equipping and conditioning the teaching facilities of some of Mexico’s most prestigious universities.

“I want to congratulate EY for inspiring so many entrepreneurs to continue the fight. EY is a prime example of a progressive company.” Frank Devlyn

Frank Devlyn, the National Winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year ™ Mexico 2016 program, is a business leader who has brought his 80-year old company to new heights by constantly innovating to find new ways to meet the needs of his customers.

José Norberto León Quintero expressed his gratitude to everyone who has supported him on the road to business success and to EY for having created the EOY program and giving him the opportunity to

participate. He also had a message for young people with an entrepreneurial mindset: “Think a lot about the future and about technology. Big changes will come and revolutionize all industries. I am in the medical services business and in 10 years my industry will be completely different than it is now and this is why we need to work hard today.”

Hospital San Javier Guadalajara first opened its doors 20 years ago and since that time it has been unyielding in its commitment to providing medical services following the highest quality standards and using the most cutting-edge medical technology.

Since 1994, José Norberto has lead this cutting-edge comprehensive health solution provider. The San Javier group currently operates four hospitals across a network of 5,000 doctors. For the past 13 years it has been certified as a specialty hospital by Mexico’s General Health Council.

Hospital San Javier is the first private hospital in Latin America to provide no-scalpel brain radiosurgery though its Gamm Knife Unit and it is also the first hospital in western Mexico to be certified as a Specialty Hospital.

“Innovation isn’t just about buying new equipment; it’s about providing the service, investing in innovative human capital, finding new ways of doing things, and leading the way for the next generation to succeed.”

materia prima competitiva capaz de atraer inversiones”, mencionó el finalista del reco-nocimiento EY Entrepreneur of the Year.
