The band summer season is now in full swing, and we have been lucky to have had good weather for all our engagements so far. It was a very hot day when we entertained at the Rodborough Community Centre, and some of us got slightly sun-burnt playing at the Edge Village Fete, where (between pieces) we always enjoy the views of the surrounding hills! TV filming in FramptonIn early April, an e-mail arrived to Frampton Community Association inviting us tonominateourvillageforanewTVseriescalled‘VillageoftheYear’.Wehadjustheardthat theparish councilwasnot getting an expectedplanningwindfall of £10,000 asexpected.Thiswasear-markedforagranttotheCommunityAssociationtorefurbishthe playground. Stag Homes are pleased to be building six new houses in Lake

Lane Frampton on Severn with completion set for January 2018.

Following their acclaimed development of new properties and restoration of The Hog public house in Horsley, Stag Homes appointed local architect Daniel Stewart to design homes able to capture the essence of the charm of the village and yet be truly contemporary inside.

The weathered brick, sash windows and slate roofs match many of the

eighteenth century residences overlooking the green.

In addition to four and fi ve bedroom family houses there will be one, two bedroom properties for shared ownership. For those who can’t quite afford to buy a new home, this is an opportunity to buy part (say 60%) on a mortgage and get on the housing ladder. The balance of the ownership will be held by Heylo Housing Association.

But what does the Parish Council DO?Did you know that the parish council gives grants to village organisations for various reasons?Forexample, inthelastcoupleofyearswehavedonatedtotheCommunityAssociation, the Youth Football Club, Frampton Remembers WW1, the ChapelImprovementProject,theSt.Mary’sAnniversaryprojectandthedefibrillatorcabinetoutsideCadburyHall.Therewerealsosmalldonationstoorganisationsthatbenefitour villagers or village such as Citizen’s Advice, Victim Support, SARA, CPRE. You may feel that we chose the wrong organisations to sponsor and that yours deserves money more. However, we have given grants to almost all the organisations that have approached us and if yours has not received any money it will probably be because you have not asked us for any. We are coming up to the time of year when we will draw up our budget for next year and it would be nice to see lots of requests from village organisations. If we get lots of approaches we cannot promise to fund everyonebutwewillbeabletodrawupaprioritylistdependingonthebenefitstothe village as a whole, as we see them. Initiatives to help teenagers and young adults would be particularly welcome, as these were the groups that seemed to be getting the least from our village as present, judging by the online survey we conducted earlier in the year.

As this is being written, the parish survey is coming in. There is a short pieceelsewhere in the newsletter about this. Meanwhile, these have been the planning decisions for the last month:

Is your hedge spreading across the pavement?Frampton Parish Council is getting complaints that some pavements in the village are too narrow to use because a hedge has spread across it. Please remember that thiscanbeverydifficultforpedestrians, especiallyforthosepushingpramsorusingwheelchairs. Please cut it back.

Do you have qualifications or experience for youth work? Are you someone who might offer to help?

Frampton parish council has access to some possible funding that could be used to re-start a youth club for teenagers. We have also researched a couple of possible venues that could be used. Many thanks to all of you who have taken thetimetofillthisinandparticularthankstothevolunteerswhoagreedtodeliverand collect it. Having seen some early comments, these are some quick responses:1. PavementoppositeBuckholtHouse(nexttotheNarles).Wehavealreadyheld

one meeting with Gloucestershire Highways about this earlier in the summer and there is another meeting in September. We are working hard to get something done.

2. Hedges over pavements. There is a notice about this in this newsletter. Please letusknowifaparticularhedgeiscausingyoudifficulty.

3. MoretreesaroundOatfieldandAnnWickesRd.Yes,thiswouldlooknicebutthe residents would need to both want it and agree to anything that was done. If this is what you want, get together and then come to talk to us.

4. Affordablehousing–theparishcouncilhastriedtobringaffordablehousinginto the village for a long time. Finally, we will be getting a few at the end of Lake Lane when that development is built. We will carry on trying.

5. Parking by Splatt Bridge. Yes, we agree it is a problem, as is parking in other parts of the village. Unfortunately, we do not own any land to turn into parking and the cost of purchase would mean we would need money from other sources as well as our own but we continue to look for solutions. Your suggestions are always welcome.

6. Flood defences: We agree that the present arrangements are unsatisfactory. We willcontinuetolobbytheEnvironmentAgencyandtheCanalandRiversTrustfor a better solution.

7. Path on the Perryway. This is also a continuing discussion with County Highways going back many years. To achieve a path, the ditch would need to be culverted and they indicate that they do not have funds to do this at present. We are very concerned for pedestrians and cyclists on this road.

8. Whydidwenotsurveyeachmemberofahousehold?Costsofpapersurveysaremuch higher than online surveys. Because of processing costs, to have surveyed each resident would have more than doubled our costs and taken a third of our totalbudgetfortheyear.Wedonotagreethat‘onesurveyformperresident’is the only format to give meaningful feedback. The online survey earlier in the year was open to all residents who have the internet but obviously restricted from those who do not. One paper survey per household is giving us extremely meaningful results.

Churchyard SurveyI am sure that everyone will be pleased to know that a comprehensive survey of the churchyard in Frampton has been carried out which will mean that it will be far easier to locate the graves of all the people who have been buried there.Based on the original plan so carefully drawn up by John Gleed, further hours and hours of painstaking work have gone into this by volunteers led by Margaret Melaney – a lady from the States whose family have connections with Frampton. The survey isnowinafileinthechurch, availabletoall(andthereisanotherhardcopyintheGloucester archives and it is also held electronically). It lists all the graves in the churchyard in alphabetical order and each entry has a number which relates to the mapsinthefilesothatfindingtheactualgravebecomesasimpleexercise.NeedlesstosayweareallverygratefultoMargaretforundertakingandcarryingoutthis immense task but, sadly, she will not be present when the survey is presented to the church at the Family and Baptism service on Sunday July 30th. Whilst writing I am also pleased to report that plans are afoot to upgrade and improve the heating system in the church during this summer and autumn so attending church next winter will be a more comfortable occasion.Martin Greaves – Treasurer

CONGREGATIONAL CHURCHHowquicklythemonthsareflyingby.IjustarrivedbackfromholidayandrealisedIhadn’twritten my entry for the magazine so I am hoping that I am not too late. What a sad time we have been having lately. One of our long standing members Headley Woodhouse died. He kept our chapel looking beautiful both inside decorating and out side in the small garden where he won a few awards from the Parish Council. He also did a lot of decorating aroundthevillageandbecamequiteawellknownfigureintheneighbourhood.WeshallmisshimgreatlyasweshallalsomissGrahamVick’swifePaulinewhoalsodiedrecently.Pauline’s funeral servicewasheld in theChapel ledbyourMinister.Agreatnumberof people came along to say goodbye to Pauline and Graham and his brother, Trevor, togetherconductedhereulogy.SowesayGoodbyetoPauline.Althoughnotamemberof our Chapel we pay tribute to Freddy Pitman, a stalwart of this village who worked and lived here all his life and was loved by everyone, another sad Goodbye.BrightHour, togetherwiththeMothersUnion, heldalovelyafternoononthefirstTuesdayin July. They met in Chapel Schoolroom and listened to an extremely good talk given by RoseHewlettonthegreatfloodwhichovertookthisvillageandsurroundingcountrysideIn the seventeenth century. It was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone as was the delicious tea which they shared together afterwards. Bright Hour meet every Tuesday afternoon and join together on many occasions through the year with the Mothers Union. Do come along and join us. I have just received the news that Miss Rosa Bradley, who was a member of our Bright Hour and a long standing resident of this village has died. Rosa has beenunwellforalongtimeandhasbeenaresidentinalocalNursingHome.Weofferour sympathies to her family. The South West Midland Area of the Congregational Federation recently held theirexecutive meeting at the chapel following a picnic which they shared together at the Junction. They really enjoyed coming to our village and also the tea we supplied after the meeting before they left. It was a pleasure to host the meeting and we look forward to further occasions. The work to clear the balcony has at last been completed and has exposed a very large beam which is the trunk of a complete elm tree. We are now awaiting the architect with the hope that we can leave the beam as a feature incorporated in the design for the new balcony.TheServicesandeventsaregivenbelow,don’tforgettocomealongtoourCoffeePopIn’sheldonthelastFridayofeverymonth.Services: August6th DrSusieBuckley August13th KeithStannardRachelCowley August20th RevdNickGleich(Communion) August27th DrRosiEmerson September3rd RevdNickGleich.9.00amBigTopService GiffordsCircus September10th RevdNickGleich September 17th Susie Buckley (Communion) September24th RevdNickGleich October 1st Harvest Festival Sunday School for all young people 10.30 ALLSERVICESAT10.30AMFOLLOWEDBYCOFFEEEvents: CoffeePopIn’s:Aug25th,Sept29th,10.00-12.00 Tuesday: Bright Hour 2.30pm Thursday: Babies and Toddlers Drop In, 10.00 - l2.00MinisterRevdNickGleichTel01453546928foranyenquiriesor:Secretary Sue Cowley Tel 01452741748 Magazine: Shirley Hunter

Hidden Gardens donation to the Cadbury Hall Kitchen refurbishment

Asalways, weareverygratefultothosegardeners inFrampton, whoforoneafternoon each year open their gardens to the Public. We are likewise very grateful to our W.I. and Susan and Mathew Grist, who provide very welcome refreshmentsforourvisitors, andPennyandRogerWinfieldwhoofferplantsfor sale.We know how much hard work goes into this, and some years if the weather is too dry or too wet, it becomes very much a labour of love. This year was no exception. Each year a date is booked, primarily to fit in with the events calendar forthe Manor Garden, (which is acknowledged to be the star attraction), without knowingwhatotherlocaleventsmaybeplannedforthesameday.Andprobablymoreimportantstill,whattheweatherwillbelikeontheday.Atleastthisyear,the weather was good. This year it clashed with at least three other local events, the Berkeley Show being the largest. As a result, the footfall was not quite as high as someprevious years, but from visitor feedback, we know that those who did come, really enjoyed doing so.Thisyearwehadtheadditionalbenefitofbeingabletoshareourdaywithanumber of very strange folk. I refer of course to some 27 scarecrows dotted around the village.Organised by the Frampton Village Society, the response this year was excellent. Some very creative examples were displayed and they did not have to be in a ‘Hidden Garden’. Prompted by the displays, many visitors were observedwalking around with grins on their faces.Nodoubtareportcanbefoundelsewhereinthisedition.Thiseventcouldwellbecomeagrowingfixtureinfutureyears,withanumberofpeoplesayingtheywould have a go next year.A£400donation towards theCadburyHall kitchen refurbishment fund, wasrecently presented by Rotary President, Julian Gobey, to Jim Ball and suggestions for any other worthy local good causes should be directed to Stonehouse Rotary Club. www.stonehouserotary.org.uk

Chairman’s Report | Summer 2017

We have had an extremely productive 2017 here at Perryway Players, we kicked started the year off with our annual pantomime, Once upon a Pantomime and we were we so happy with how well it was received. Usually, the season then continues with a Spring production, but like all things, sometimes you need to take a step back and reset.

We decided to take some time off and re-coup and re-strengthen the group. We have seen a new committee take shape and I would like to say on behalf of Perryway Players, a huge thank you to David Wheeler for his honourable 40 + years service to the group, who stepped down in spring as Chairman to pursuit his love of acting. David’s contribution to the group through not only performing but committee duties also is unparalleled.

I would also like to thank Debbie Deacon who has also stepped down as our long serving secretary. She was paramount to the group for over a decade, ensuring it ran smoothly and we stayed together. Debbie has decided to spend some quality time outside of the group and it is thoroughly deserved. Taking over her duties is Rachel Mckie, who has been a valiant addition to group and I would like to give my personal thanks to her for being so positive in bringing the group forward.

I am excited to announce that I will be making my directorial debut this fall with Beauty and the Beast the Pantomime, written by Bradford and Webster by arrangement of NODA . We will be holding auditions in August and we encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved to apply online via our website WWW.PERRYWAYPLAYERS.COM . We have recently refurbished our online home and our feedback for it has been fantastic, please take a look.

Tickets for the pantomime will go on sale in the autumn and we encourage you to book early as our last two productions sold out very quickly.

We also need anyone who is keen to help out backstage, if you are handy at painting, DIY and general hands on stuff, please get in touch by emailing [email protected] .

We also need Chaperones due to new legislation for children performing. If you like working with children, we are looking for volunteers to help for our pantomime and we will cover the cost of becoming a chaperone. If you are interested, please also get in touch.

Finally, I am also excited to announce our spring production in 2018 will be “Safe House” a brand new thriller, written by our very own Jane Ryan, details for that production will follow shortly.

Best wishes,Craig Hunt Chairman

What prompted you to get involved? For 34 years I worked in sales for a wooden doors and windows company, driving 1200 miles a week. I used to be able to feel myself relaxing as I drove home down the Perry Way after another day spent tearing around the country. I had not a clue what the Council was or did, but I was duly elected by the skin of my teeth - the 9th of the 9 Councillors being voted in that day – and on the same day as Maggie Thatcher came to power in May 1979! In 1983 I became Chairman, and I am still active as a Councillor.I have heard that you’re also involved in other voluntary activities.
