Easter Sunday (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection

The women arrive at the tomb and find that the stone has been moved. The vision of the angels who announce the resurrection terrifies them. But their message is one of joy and hope: “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here; He has been raised” (Lk 24: 5-6). Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Today the Church rejoices in the glory of the triumph of the

Lord. Christ has overcome death and his resurrection is a pledge of our own resurrection. This is the Good News we are called to proclaim. May the Lord’s resurrection fill you with joy and new hope in the promises of God.

Reflexión Dominical Las mujeres llegan al sepulcro y encuentran corrida la

piedra. La visión de los ángeles que anuncian la resurrección las deja aterradas. Pero el mensaje es de alegría y esperanza: “¿Por qué buscan entre los muertos al que está vivo? No está aquí, ha resucitado” (Lc 24, 5-6). ¡Jesucristo ha resucitado! ¡Verdaderamente ha resucitado!

Hoy la Iglesia se alegra en la gloria del triunfo del Señor.

Cristo ha vencido a la muerte y su resurrección es prenda de la nuestra. Esta es la Buena Nueva que estamos llamados a proclamar. Que la resurrección del Señor los llene de gozo y de la nueva esperanza en las promesas de Dios.

Dios los bendiga. ¡Feliz Pascua de Resurrección!

Passion and Triumph We have made the journey together. The Lord has crossed to the other

side, has freed us, fed us, redeemed us and given us new life, Eternal

Life. Today, then, let us ask ourselves if that Passion Christ feels for us is

the same passion we feel for Him. If this giving Himself for us is matched

by giving ourselves wholeheartedly to Him. If this God who makes

everything new can make our lives new in Him… and that depends on us.

Easter is the time to believe the God who lives and wants us alive, as

Pope Francis says in the Apostolic Exhortation Christus vivit.

This Easter, let us take time to reflect what it means to be alive. Let it

not be limited to the ability to breathe, but that it may have in us the

same effect it had on Nicodemus, so that we may be reborn of water and

the Spirit every day, and be his witnesses in a world that most of the time

only seems to be surviving. Let us place all our time, talent and money on

that which gives us full and abundant life, that we may little by little

change every corner of our society, like the leaven transforms the dough.

With Christ all things are possible!

Pasión y Triunfo Ya hicimos el camino juntos, ya el Señor nos cruzó de orilla, nos liberó,

nos alimentó, nos redimió y nos regaló una vida nueva, la Vida Eterna. Hoy

nos queda por preguntarnos si esta Pasión de Cristo por nosotros es

nuestra pasión por Él, si esta entrega de Cristo por nosotros, es nuestra

entrega de corazón a Él, si este Dios que hace nuevas todas las cosas,

puede hacer nueva nuestra vida en Él, y eso depende solamente de

nosotros. La Pascua es tiempo de creerle a Dios, al que vive y nos quiere

vivos, como dice el Papa Francisco en la exhortación apostólica “Christus

vivit”.

Tomemos este tiempo de Pascua para reflexionar lo que es estar vivos.

Que no se reduzca sólo al poder respirar, sino que tenga en nosotros el

efecto que tuvo en Nicodemo de poder nacer del agua y del Espíritu todos

los días para poder ser sus testigos en un mundo que a veces parece que

sólo sobrevive. Pongamos entonces todo nuestro tiempo, nuestro talento y

nuestro dinero en aquello que nos da vida plena y en abundancia, para ir

cambiando de a poco como la levadura que fermenta la masa, cada

rincón de nuestra sociedad. Con Cristo ¡se puede!

All ministry activity, with the exception of Encuentro en la Palabra, Centering Prayer and the meditated Holy Rosary, will recess during Easter week also. Getting to Know the New Saints Conozcamos a los Nuevos Santos

ST. MARIE-ALPHONSINE DANIL GHATTAS (1843-1927) — Maryam Sultanah Danil Ghattas was born to a Palestinian family in Jerusalem and spent her whole life working among the poor. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition at age 14, and received the name Marie-Alphonsine.

Following a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary during a visit to Bethlehem, she helped establish a new religious community which she named the Sisters of the Holy Rosary of Jerusalem. Sister Marie-Alphonsine dedicated her life to parish ministry and the care and education of girls of Arab descent, and the community quickly grew. She also established religious associations promoting devotion to Mary through the rosary.

She died in Ein Karem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist, on the feast of the Annunciation, 1927, and was canonized by Pope Francis in 2015.

SANTA MARÍA ALFONSINA DANIL GHATTAS (1843-1927) — Maryam Sultanah Danil Ghattas nació en una familia palestina de Jerusalén y dedicó su vida a trabajar con los pobres. Ingresó en la Congregación de Hermanas de San José de la Aparición a los 14 años, recibiendo el nombre de María Alfonsina.

Luego de una visión de la Santísima Virgen durante una visita a Belén, fundó una comunidad religiosa que llamó Hermanas del Santo Rosario de Jerusalén. La Madre María Alfonsina dedicó su vida al ministerio parroquial y al cuidado y educación de niñas de descendencia árabe, y la comunidad creció rápidamente. Estableció además asociaciones religiosas que promovían la devoción a María por medio del Rosario.

La Madre María Alfonsina murió en Ein Karem, lugar del nacimiento de San Juan Bautista, en la fiesta de la Anunciación en 1927. Fue canonizada por el Papa Francisco en 2015.

The Easter of Christ has caused another thing to erupt into the world: the novelty of dialogue and relationship, a novelty which has become a responsibility for Christians…. [W]e are called to

safeguard the common good and to take care of our brothers and sisters, in particular those who are weakest and most

marginalized. Only fraternity can guarantee a lasting peace, can overcome poverty, can extinguish tension and war, can eradicate corruption and crime. May the Angel who tells us: “He has risen”

help us to live the fraternity and the novelty of dialogue and relationships and of concern for the common good.

May the Virgin Mary whom, in this time of Easter, we invoke with the title Queen of Heaven, support us with her prayers so that the fraternity and communion that we experience in these days of Easter may become our way of life and the spirit of our relationships.

This year, the St. Hugh Parish Sr. Kathleen Donnelly Scholarship Committee will select one or more award recipients who will receive or share up to $10,000 of scholarship funding, covering up to 95% of annual tuition, books, and school

related fees for one school year. The scholarship is need based and the exact amount awarded will be determined by the Scholarship Committee. Deadline

is May 1, 2019.

The JV girls team won 2nd place overall in the ACC. For some of them, it was their first time trying out for the track team. They worked hard all season, stayed focused, pushed themselves--most of them broke personal records in various events--they helped each other, and they did it! They brought home a trophy! Great job ladies! We are so proud of you!
