Please pray for the repose of the souls of Helen T. Dabkowski

Rev. Ralph M. Colicchio Rev. William L. Traxl

and for their families and friends.

My Dear Friends,

One of the popular Catholic devotions is a 33 day consecration. The most famous of these are devoted to the Blessed Mother, beginning with St. Louis de Montfort’s True Consecration. Most others use this as a template for their various consecrations. I have done St. Louis de Montfort’s consecration twice in my priesthood. One consecration that means a lot to me that I have prayed each year of my priesthood is the Triumphant Victory of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is from the Queenship Publishing Company. I have also recently finished a consecration by Fr. Brian McMaster called, Totus Tuus: A Consecration to Jesus Through Mary with Blessed John Paul II. I have also prayed Fr. Michael Gaitley’s consecration to the Blessed Mother, 33 Days to Morning Glory. I am currently in the fourth week of his other consecration, 33 Days to Greater Glory, a consecration to the Father through Jesus based on the Gospel of John. The other consecration I have done I mentioned a few weeks ago, Fr. Donald Calloway’s consecration to St. Joseph. These consecrations are an important way for us to enter more deeply into prayer with a certain focus, whether it is the Blessed Mother, her most chaste spouse, St. Joseph of some aspect of a Person of the Trinity. It also forces us to be disciplined for thirty three days by reading and praying the necessary readings and prayers of that particular day. Most importantly, though, is that these consecrations lead us closer to our Lord. Although I have a fondness for St. Louis de Montfort’s consecration, it can be a little daunting and quite long, as well as being translated into an older style English. The more current consecrations are more easily readable. I do highly recommend any one of these consecrations, if you are looking for some other devotion to add to your daily rosary and your daily reading from Sacred Scripture.

God bless, Fr. John

PRAYING FOR OUR PRIESTS

Think about the greatness of the Holy Priesthood in our Church and their authority through the Sacrament of Ordination, to consecrate simple bread into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Priests have a tremendous responsibility with regards to the eternal destiny of the immortal souls which are entrusted to their care. Please support our priests in their immense responsibility through your daily prayers and small renunciations offered to the Lord for them. Please take one of the “Apostolate of Prayer for Priests - Hartford” monthly calendars located at church entrances and pray daily for the particular priests noted. Please always keep in prayers our Pastor, Father John, as he selflessly and faithfully ministers to our parish community.

Friends, This past week, the music world lost a literal giant. Ennio Morricone died Monday, July 6, 2020 in Rome at the age of 91. The Italian cultural ministry confirmed his death in a statement that called him "a musician of refined skill who with his melodies has been able to excite and make the whole world dream." In total, Morricone wrote over 500 movie scores in his lifetime. Many of you would recognize his famous musical score to the movie "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." His compositions are noted as the sound "of the American West." Perhaps my favorite soundtrack is from the 1986 movie

"The Mission" - a story of Jesuit missionaries sent to 18th century South America to spread the Good News. If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommend it not only for the story line but also the music; specifically, Morricone wrote the haunting melody "Gabriel's Oboe" for this script which I often play during Mass and especially at funerals. I know this past weekend, this melody was played in many churches worldwide to honor Morricone's memory. If you are able, go to our parish website or access it on your electronic device and click on this link to hear the melody - you will recognize it right away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtE3hoR_Nvo May God Bless your week. -Lou

Tickets are also available at the parish office, please call Joyce at 860-224-2411 to arrange a time for you to safely pick up tickets. Stubs and money may be dropped off at the parish office with prior notice. Please get the word out and help make this a great success! Thank you!

2020 Mission Cooperative Appeal Collection The 2020 Mission Cooperative Appeal Collection will be taken this weekend of July 18 and 19. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, representatives are not able to be with us this year; however, although physically distant, we have the opportunity to be present for them though our spiritual and financial support. The ministries of The Archdiocese of Owerri, Nigeria will benefit from our parish’s generosity. Our assistance will help them upgrade hospital medical equipment and infrastructure and secure qualified medical professionals. There also is a great need for seminarian formation support, evangelization, and education efforts to youth and lay religious educators. Our sharing in response to Christ’s call that we “love one another” will bring His hope into the lives of many. We ask your generous response. There will be a collection basket marked specifically for the Mission Co-op. Checks may be made out to The Catholic Mission Aid Office. On their behalf, thank you.
