Telling Your Story with DataJoin two of Canada’s leading data journalists, CBC’s David McKie and CTV’s Glen McGregor, for intensive hands-on instruction with the essential tools for working with electronic records. Participants will learn to use spreadsheets, mapping and other software to turn raw data into stories. The course will emphasize the particular skills needed to develop innovative and intriguing ways to use data. Dealing with the Media: Practical Training for LawyersThis is an intensive half-day, hands-on media training workshop This is an intensive half-day, hands-on media training workshop based in the television studios of the School of Journalism and Communication. Each participant will be involved in two different simulated media situations, a scrum and a double-ender/talkback interview. Through this hands-on learning approach, lawyers will learn how to develop relationships with journalists, respond to media requests, develop a message, avoid legalese, appear comfortable on camera, and conduct interviews during a comfortable on camera, and conduct interviews during a publication ban.Date: April 23Price: $325 plus HST per person.

The Active Shooter: Risk and Reward of Social Media EngagementNo organization is immune to the risk of an active shooter No organization is immune to the risk of an active shooter scenario.
