Hello Parishioners, Visitors, and all Mighty Cougars,
This year the Missionary Childhood Association of Los Angeles paid a visit to our students during Catholic Schools Week. It is an organization dedicated to fostering children’s awareness of the missionary nature of the Church.
The Missionary Childhood Association provided our school with posters for our Lent board featuring the Stations of the Cross. These stations are not traditional; rather, they show the suffering of people today, relating it to the suffering of Christ during his passion. They are pictures taken by Maryknoll Missioners in the field, in some of the poorest places in the world. The posters are uncomfortable, challenging, and heartbreaking - just like the Passion of Our Lord. This week while walking through the hall, I encountered the TK class on their way back to their classroom. One of the students asked me to explain one of the posters - this turned into an extended conversation and mini-lesson about the stations, suffering, and our call to be missionaries. Our lives are filled with moments of God’s grace, and for me, today, this was one of them. In the inquisitive questions of the TK students, God reminds me to never stop being curious. In their concern for the people in the pictures, God reminds me to never let my heart harden and to be open to compassion and empathy. In our conversation, God reminds me of my call to evangelize and be a missionary. In stopping during my hustle and bustle in the everyday life of a school, God reminds me to always be open to his grace and the whisper of his voice.
In that spirit, I wish you inquisitiveness, compassion, empathy and enough silence to hear the voice of our loving God so that we can continue to build his kingdom and spread his Love. In the peace of Christ,

Helping Children Problem Solve Through Communication
Helping children understand that they have the right to establish boundaries if anyone tries to hurt them or touch them in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable is an important, but
sometimes difficult, task. Establishing boundaries around touch is integral to
keeping kids safe. Having regular, open conversations about safety is one of the
best ways to help keep kids safe. Remind children that their bodies are their own,
encourage them to talk about their concerns and listen respectfully when

Stations of the Cross Fridays
The object of the Stations is to help the faithful to make, in spirit, a pilgrimage to the primary scenes of Christ’s suffering and death. St. Hilary will pray the Stations of the Cross
every Friday during Lent at 5:30 PM (Bilingual). We hope you will join us for this prayerful devotion.
Vía Crucis los viernes
La atención de la oración del Vía Crucis se centra en la contemplación de la actitud de amorosa entrega de Jesucristo y en la petición de fe, confianza,

Communion for the Sick or Homebound
On Good Friday from 8AM-12PM, St. Hilary Eucharistic Ministers will be delivering Communion to the sick, homebound or those in local convalescent
centers. We ask families that know of a relative, friend or a neighbor that would like to receive communion to please contact the parish office (562) 942-7300.
For those who register before Good Friday, Fr. Diego will pay a visit.

Lectura del libro de Jeremías "Se acerca el tiempo, dice el Señor, en que haré con la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá una alianza nueva. No será como la alianza que hice con los padres de ustedes, cuando los tomé de la mano para sacarlos de Egipto. Ellos rompieron mi alianza y yo tuve que hacer un escarmiento con ellos. Ésta será la alianza nueva que voy a hacer con la casa de Israel: Voy a poner mi ley en lo más profundo de su mente y voy a grabarla en sus corazones. Yo seré su Dios y ellos serán mi pueblo. Ya nadie tendrá que instruir a su prójimo ni a su hermano, diciéndole: 'Conoce al Señor', porque todos me van a conocer, desde el más pequeño hasta el mayor de todos, cuando yo les perdone sus culpas y olvide para siempre sus pecados".
Lectura de la carta del apóstol San Pablo a los Hebreos Hermanos: Durante su vida mortal, Cristo ofreció oraciones y súplicas, con fuertes voces y lágrimas, a aquel que podía librarlo de la muerte, y fue escuchado por su piedad. A pesar de que era el Hijo, aprendió a obedecer padeciendo, y llegado a su perfección, se convirtió en la causa de la salvación eterna para todos los que lo obedecen.
Lectura del santo Evangelio según San Juan Entre los que habían llegado a Jerusalén para adorar a Dios en la fiesta de Pascua, había algunos griegos, los cuales se acercaron a Felipe, el de Betsaida de Galilea, y le pidieron: "Señor, quisiéra-mos ver a Jesús". Felipe fue a decírselo a Andrés; Andrés y Feli-pe se lo dijeron a Jesús y él les respondió: "Ha llegado la hora de que el Hijo del hombre sea glorificado. Yo les aseguro que si el grano de trigo, sembrado en la tierra, no muere, queda infecundo; pero si muere, producirá mucho fruto. El que se ama a sí mismo, se pierde; el que se aborrece a sí mismo en este mundo, se asegura para la vida eterna. El que quiera servirme, que me siga, para que donde yo esté, también esté mi servidor. El que me sirve será honrado por mi Padre. Ahora que tengo miedo, ¿le voy a decir a mi Padre: 'Padre, líbrame de esta hora'? No, pues precisamente para esta hora he venido. Padre, dale gloria a tu nombre". Se oyó entonces una voz que decía: "Lo he glorificado y volveré a glorificarlo". De entre los que estaban ahí presentes y oyeron aquella voz, unos decían que había sido un trueno; otros, que le había hablado un ángel. Pero Jesús les dijo: "Esa voz no ha venido por mí, sino por ustedes. Está llegando el juicio de este mundo; ya va a ser arrojado el príncipe de este mundo. Cuando yo sea levantado de la tierra, atraeré a todos hacia mí". Dijo esto, indicando de qué manera habría de morir.

A reading from the book of Jeremiah The days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers the day I took them by the hand to lead them forth from the land of Egypt; for they broke my covenant, and I had to show myself their master, says the LORD. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD. I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer will they have need to teach their friends and relatives how to know the LORD. All, from least to greatest, shall know me, says the LORD, for I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sin no more.
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews In the days when Christ Jesus was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John Some Greeks who had come to worship at the Passover Feast came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me. "I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it and will glorify it again." The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said, "An angel has spoken to him." Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come for my sake but for yours. Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself." He said this indicating the kind of death he would die.
