    TROPHIES THE JOHN CUNNINGHAM MEMORIAL CUP will be awarded to the competitor gaining most points in Livestock, Grain, Seeds and Roots Section. Winner 2016: GG & BM Gilbert THE MATSON & ALLAN OUTSTANDING YOUNG ACHIEVERS AWARD is an annual merit trophy awarded to a person under 30 years old, to recognise their achievements in the Rural Community. Winner 2016: Willis Ritchie.

    THE LEESTON 150TH JUBILEE CUP is awarded to the Supreme Animal of the Show and is to be presented annually. Winner 2016:

    OTHER TROPHIES LISTED

    All Cups and Trophies will be for competition at future Shows and may be held for one year by the winner, whose name will be inscribed on the Cup/Trophy on Show Day. Cups and Trophies must be collected from the Secretary's Office after 3:00pm on Show Day.

    NOTE:- The Committee particularly invites suggestions from Members and others as to the better management of the Society's work generally and its future development as a source of education to agriculturists and proposals that may tend to increase its influence, welfare or popularity. Any notification to the Secretary in this direction will be duly considered.

    COMPLETION OF ENTRY FORMS

    • Refer to section for fees. All entries are inclusive of GST.

    • All entry forms must be signed and entry fees calculated correctly for entry fees to be accepted.

    • Gate passes: One gate pass will be issued after payment of $10 or more in entry fees. • Entry forms that have not been signed, or in which entry fees have been calculated incorrectly, will be returned. This applies to all entrants, including Members who have not paid their annual subscription, but who have calculated their entry fees on the Member's fees.

  • GENERAL INFORMATION

    V.H.C. 1 point Each name in the Catalogue or combination of names per exhibit, to be a separate entry. Where there is no competition, half value of points to be awarded. CHAMPION POINTS will not be awarded where there is no competition. Competition shall mean two or more exhibitors. In the event of ties, the winner of the largest number of first prizes shall have the preference.

    1. All entries close with the Secretary, in writing, on or before SEPTEMBER 15th, 2017, and must be the property of the exhibitor at the time of making the entry. No exhibit will be catalogued unless Entry Fees accompany the entry form.

    2. The Ellesmere Agricultural and Pastoral Association will account for the Goods and Services Tax on an inclusive basis.

    3. The same animal cannot be entered in two classes; but this shall not apply to Private or Special Prizes, and to the several classes in Cattle & Horses.

    4. EXTRA STOCK: Stock, implements, etc not eligible under any of the enumerated classes, may be exhibited by paying one-half of the usual entrance fees. N.B. - No prize will be awarded where the Judges consider there is a class in which such stock can be exhibited.

    5. Exhibitors will be required to state as accurately as possible, at the time of entry, the date of birth of all stock in classes where age is to be specified; also the date of the last shearing of Sheep. N.B. Cattle of two years must not show more than four broad teeth and of three years, six but not eight.)

    6. A maiden is defined as an animal that has not won a First Prize at an A & P Show at closing date. 7. All Bulls must be led and tied by a ring through the nose. One man must be in attendance with each lot of

    cattle. 8. Any Cow or Ewe which is barren shall not be eligible to take a prize, except in the Fat Stock classes. If any

    Mare shall lose her foal, or if it should have met with an accident such mare will be eligible to compete if she is in milk.

    9. TIME OF JUDGING - Exhibits must be ready for judging at the times specified in the schedule. 10. REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS - No Exhibit or implements exhibited to be removed from the Showgrounds UNTIL

    4.00pm on the Saturday, without a special order from the Secretary. The doors of the Produce Sheds will be closed at 5 pm.

    11. The Committee will not, under any circumstances, hold themselves responsible for loss, damage or mis-delivery of Stock, Poultry, Produce, Implements or any other exhibit or thing exhibited at the Show.

    12. PRIZES - Except in Horse Sections and Produce Sheds. All Prize Money will be posted as soon as possible after the Show. Prize winners are requested to cash cheques before December 31, which is the Association’s balance date. Horse Section - Prize money will be paid on the day. Produce Section - Prize money will be paid on the day, at 4:00 p.m. by the Steward in charge of the Section. At the time of printing this schedule, the Association advertises all sponsorship and special prizes in good faith but will not be liable for the payment of any sponsorship or special prizes not received from the sponsor.

    13. In all classes where two or three prizes have been awarded, the JUDGES are directed to "very highly commend", "highly commend" or "commend" the other exhibits worthy of these distinctions.

    14. Third prize money will not be awarded in any class in which there are less than five entries; in the event of there being no competition in any class, no prizes will be given unless the judges certify to particular merit. Power is reserved to withhold a prize where the Judges consider it ought not to be awarded, for want of

  • sufficient merit, even where there is competition. 15. Judges of Stock, in arriving at their decisions, are requested not to give undue weight to high condition (except

    in classes for Fat Stock), but to award the prizes to the animals in each class which they consider best represent the particular breed of the description intended to be encouraged. Judges are directed to pass over all animals whose want of condition be token weakness of constitution, however great their merit may be in other respects.

    16. Discrepancies in the prize list must be notified in writing to the Secretary within fourteen days from the date of the Show, or they will not on any account be entertained.

    17. All prizes not claimed within six months after the date of the Show, will be forfeited. 18. PROTESTS - All protests must be left with the Secretary either before or after the Judges have proceeded to

    their duties. The party entering a protest must deposit $50.00, which will be returned if the protest is sustained. If the protest be lodged before the Judges proceed to their duties, the onus of proof will rest with the exhibitor; if after that, the onus of proof will rest with the party protesting. The Committee will meet at the Secretary's Office at 3.30 p.m. on the Saturday to consider all protests: five members to form a quorum. All protests must be lodged within one hour after the exhibits are judged, or the awards distributed.

    19. GENERAL - Any Exhibitor infringing any of the above Regulations shall be subject to be dealt with as may be decided by the Committee, whose decision shall be final. The decision and ruling of the Committee on any rule, regulation, protest or any other matter affecting the Association will be final and absolute, without the right of appeal.

    20.     DUTIES OF THE CLASS STEWARDS

    1. To study carefully the general regulations and section conditions. 2. To see the Catalogue numbers are placed on pens etc. on the day before the show. 3. To see each exhibit is placed in its proper class and has its catalogue number affixed, that back numbers are

    checked. To see that all horses in classes where measurement is specified have their certificates of measurement before presenting prizes.

    4. To wait on the judges and acquaint them with the instructions and regulations governing the class being judged and to point out all exhibits in the class. On no account are the names of the exhibitors to be communicated to the judges.

    5. To take down the decision of the judge and immediately fill in the award sheets and prize tickets in full. To attach or pass the prize tickets to the exhibit/exhibitor and after having the award sheet signed by the judge and steward take promptly to the Secretary's office.

    HEALTH & SAFETY PLAN

    A full copy of the Health & Safety plan is held in the Secretary's office along with a map of the grounds and restricted zones, first aid area and fire extinguishers. EVACUATION PROCEDURE: is at two sites - the Main Ring and the Dog Trial area.

    BRUCELLOSIS: No entries will be accepted unless a current accreditation certificate accompanies the entry form. SPECIAL PRIZES: Refer to points at front of catalogue. Champion Ribbons will be awarded in Pure-Bred Sections. All classes open to imported or New Zealand bred Sheep unless otherwise specified, and all Sheep must be shown in the wool, with the exception of the specified classes in the Pure-Bred Section. The date of last shearing to be given when entry is made. No restrictions as to feeding. Sheep shown in natural or open classes under 18 months old must carry a full fleece unless otherwise specified. All Sheep entered in Pure-Bred classes must be entered in, or be eligible for entry in, their respective Flock Books. In all Shorn classes, all sheep to be machine shorn close and even to the skin on or after 20th July preceding the Show, unless otherwise specified. All Terminal Sire classes are to be machine shorn fairly and evenly on or after September 1, preceding the show. Exhibitors in Pure-Bred classes must state Breeder's name for each entry or entry will not be accepted. NATURAL CONDITION CLASSES will be subject to the following:

    a) That the wool has not been trimmed in any way except crutching, dagging or wigging.

    b) That there has not been any colouring, oiling or locking.

    c) That the sheep have not been housed, rugged or covered at any time or in any way.

    In reference to the above conditions the judge's decision in all classes to be final.

    STARTING TIME 9:30am Class 160 Shearing and Wool Handling. Y.F.C. Competition: Open to any person, farmer or otherwise, who is a bona fide member of a Y.F.C. Each team to consist of two shearers and two wool-handlers to shear the sheep and handle the wool correctly. Best composite Y.F.C. District Team to compete in the Regional Tasman Final Y.F.C. from which the winning team will compete in the National Final at the Golden Shears. Entry Fee $20.00 per team. The following classes are eligible for the CANTERBURY CIRCUIT STARTING TIME 10:00am Class 161 Ellesmere A & P Junior Championship Prize money: 1st - $80, 2nd - $40, 3rd - $20. Entry fee - $10 Class 162 Ellesmere A & P Intermediate Championship Prize money: 1st - $100, 2nd - $60, 3rd - $30. Entry fee - $12 Class 163 Ellesmere A & P Senior Championship Prize money: 1st - $150, 2nd - $80, 3rd - $40. Entry fee - $15 Class 164 Ellesmere A & P Open Shearing Cup Prize money: 1st - $200, 2nd - $100, 3rd - $60. Entry fee - $20 Class 165 Speed Shear Will be held immediately prior to the Open Heats.   • SHEEP DOG TRIALS Starting Time 8.00am sharp Classes run strictly to the Draw. Entry Fee: Members - $2.50 per class, Non-Members - $4.00 per class To be run under the Rules of the New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association and the By-laws of the Ellesmere A & P Association. All dogs must be free from Hydatids and owners must produce a certificate to this effect if called upon to do so. The course will be on the paddock on the North East side of the pine trees, entrance from the North gate, and all events will be run in conjunction. "District" will mean the area covered by Rule 20. The field will be drawn, District competitors running on Friday, October 16th, at 1:30pm BOON TROPHY to be awarded to the winner of the District Class. Winner 2016: Peter Binnie. BARCLAY CUP to be awarded to the winner of the Maiden Class. Winner 2016: T Schmack. .
