A lovely mix of shopping, culture, tourism and urban space design,

“Forum Mittelrhein” shopping mall in downtown Koblenz emphasizes

new town planning and architectural features. A roughly 6,000 m2

large piazza connects the three-story shopping mall with the “Forum

Confluentes” urban cultural building, which houses the Middle Rhine

Museum, the main public library, and a tourism center for the Upper

Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site, among other things.

The Certificate of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB)

has been awarded to the Forum Mittelrhein for its ecological and

energy-efficient overall concept.

The “Forum Mittelrhein” model looked at a construction area of over

30,000 m², the creation of two buildings, a cultural building and

a shopping center, with an open space between them before. The

area was at the Koblenz pedestrian connected with simultaneous

rehabilitation of the surrounding streets. The construction costs for

the entire project amounted to about EUR 180 million
