From the FRCSC President
Hello everyone and officially Happy Spring! Hope you are all stocked up on Zyrtec or Benadryl or, at a minimum, tissues. The pollen is crazy right now but, OH the beautiful blooms!
What a success we had with Fairy Godmother Project! Thank you to Katrina Steddum and her daughter LeiLani for all their hard work. Of the 50+ girls that showed up, at least half left with a beautiful gown for prom. Many thanks to all our donors and supporters as this event would not have been possible without you all. Lots of photos from the day can be seen in this issue.
We have only 2 more luncheons for this club year, both of which are sure to be a great time. April will be our Tacky Luncheon where you are encouraged to wear your tackiest, least put-together outfit...but, if you are always well put-together or don’t want to dress up, no worries! Please join us anyway! We will also be playing Left, Center, Right—a fun, very easy dice game. The winner of each table will get a prize in addition to our normal opportunities. In May we will be sporting our loveliest or most outlandish derby hats…
Please don’t forget that we will also be voting on next year’s board at the April luncheon with the induction in May. If you are interested in running for an elected position, or wish to nominate someone, contact Tammi Aid at [email protected].
Looking forward to seeing you!
Darcy
“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…
“It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the
sunshine…”

Book Review for Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger’s by John Elder Robison Reviewed by Rachel Yorgey Good Reads Score- 3.9 out of 5 Barnes and Noble Score- 4 out of 5
This month the Book Club read New York Times Bestseller
Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger’s by John Elder Robison. He is the author of five other
novels, all having to do with Asperger’s. This book published in 2007 is a memoir of the
author’s experiences growing up in the 1960’s as an oddball since Asperger syndrome diagnosis
did not yet exist in the United States. His situation was made even more complicated at times by
his neglectful and abusive father and a somewhat crazed mother. After dropping out of school,
he had a sudden fascination with sound engineering and electronics. This led him to many
interesting experiences and jobs throughout his life.
In addition to telling a heck of a good story using humor and wit, Robison does a fine job of
explaining what it means to think like a person with autism. Robison seems to be very open in
communicating with his readers. If you're intrigued, you may want to visit him online. We
enjoyed reading it and many of us learned more about the syndrome that we were not familiar
with. It made us think about our childhoods and people we knew and how the syndrome is
diagnosed today. We would recommend this book to others to read and learn from.
“And now I know it is perfectly natural for me not to look at someone when I talk.
Those of us with Asperger's are just not comfortable doing it. In fact, I don't really
understand why it's considered normal to stare at someone's eyeballs.”

Recipes of the Month
Hello Ladies!
Hope this finds everyone having survived Spring Break 2014! With Easter coming up, I thought
I would share a few of my favorite things to do with the kids at Easter. The first recipes are
something that are great if you have younger children/grandchildren still running around. The
last two are wonderful salsa recipes that are great with the upcoming warmer months. Just a
variation on traditional salsa.
Microwave Play Dough
2 Cups Flour
2 Cups Water
1 Cup Salt
4 Tsp. Cream of Tarter
4 TBS. Oil
Food Coloring
Mix first 5 ingredients in Microwave safe container. Microwave on high 3-5 minutes, stirring
every minute. "Cook" until mixture gets so thick it can't be stirred. Let mixture cool. Divide and
knead in food coloring. Store in air tight containers.
Easter Egg Nests
6 oz. Chocolate Chips
6 oz. Butterscotch Chips
5 oz. chow mein noodles or 1 pkg. shredded coconut
Jelly Beans or mini chocolate eggs
Melt chocolate in Microwave safe container for 1 minute. Stir in noodles or coconut. Mound on
Silicone mat or wax paper. Use bottom of spoon to indent center. Place mini jelly beans in next
for eggs.

Recipes of the Month
Fruit Salsa
1 Red Delicious Apple (cored and seeded)
2 kiwi (peeled)
7 strawberries
1 Tbsp. grape or apple jelly
Quick Chef Way: Place apple in Quick Chef Pro and chop to desired consistency. Add remaining
ingredients and again chop to desired consistency.
Non Food Processor Way: Cut apple up into small “salsa-sized” pieces. Add jelly to keep apple
from turning brown while you chop remaining ingredients the same way as the apple. Mix together.
Serve with graham crackers or vanilla wafer. Can also be served over pound cake, pancakes/waffles
or ice cream
Southwest Mango Pineapple Salsa
½ cucumber, peeled and seeded
1 8 oz.-can of pineapple chunks, drained
1/3 red onion
1 tbsp. Simple Indulgence™ Southwest Chipotle Seasoning Blend (or another southwest seasoning)
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1/3 cup cilantro leaves, washed
1 mango, peeled, seeded and diced
Salt and pepper to taste
Place all ingredients except the diced mango in the Quick Chef. Turn handle to chop until you reach
the desired consistency. Add diced mango and turn the handle a few more times to incorporate diced
mango into the salsa. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour tortilla chips in the Chip ’N Dip
container and add salsa to the dip bowls.
Serve salsa at refrigerator or room temperature. Again, as with fruit salsa, if you don’t have a
manual processor, just cut to desired size, and mix together!
