Miracle power up in 7-1 game two win over CardinalsPalm Beach Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty’s very first pitch of Tuesday evening was sent on a one-way journey 381 feet beyond the left field fence by Miracle lead-off man T.J. White to set the tone for a 7-1 Miracle victory yesterday. White’s solo blast was the opening salvo and his sixth home run of the season. In the fourth, Trey Vavra doubled with one out and then two Flaherty wild pitches brought him home. After Palm Beach scratched out a run in the top of the fifth, the Miracle fired back with three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Joe Maloney cracked the second Miracle solo shot of the day; a 374-foot blast to begin the inning. White added a second RBI with a single and Vavra dropped a run-scoring hit into center. The Miracle scored two more runs on a wild pitch and passed ball in the sixth and eighth innings respectively. Starter Randy Rosario turned in a quality outing with 6.2 innings allowing one run on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Luke Bard and Nick Anderson combined to keep the Cardinals off the board in the final 2.1 innings.

Miracle continue to struggle vs. the North, slide out of firstWith 10 losses in the last 16 games, the Miracle are now 2.5 games behind the Jupiter Hammerheads in the FSL South Division. The bulk of Fort Myers’ troubles in the second half have come at the hands of North Division foes. Overall, the Miracle are 17-27 against the FSL North with one series remain-ing against Clearwater at home on July 29-30. In the second half, the Miracle have split one series (Tampa), but lost the other three (Dunedin, Lakeland, Clearwater) and are 4-11 against the North in the second 70.

Gordon still scalding in July with only days left in the monthIn the fourth month of the season, 20-year old and Twins No. 5 prospect Nick Gordon is putting together his most impressive section of the season. Gordon has appeared in 23 games and gone 31-for-96 (.323) with six extra-base hits and 14 RBI after driving in nine in April, eight in May and only six in June. Gordon’s on-base percentage for July is .356 and he has struck out just 12 times in 96 at-bats. In Clearwater last Saturday, Nick launched his first home run since May 19 in Dunedin. Gordon leads the team with 25 multi-hit games and has pushed his overall average up to .298.

LaMonte Wade transitioning to FSL with easeA day after LaMonte Wade was added to the active roster for the Miracle on June 22, the left-hand hitting outfielder was placed on the disabled list with an injured hamstring. Wade had to wait a week to make his FSL debut, but the native of Owings Mill, Maryland has fit seamlessly into the Miracle lineup. Wade is 26-for-77 (.338) with at least one hit in 16-of-23 games. LaMonte has driven in 19 runs, scored another 10 and earned his first FSL homer on Sun-day, July 17. Wade homered again on Tuesday, his second in three games and plated seven RBI in the Lakeland series last week.

Curtiss providing steady bullpen option for MiracleIn May, John Curtiss made nine relief appearances out of the Fort Myers bull-pen and surrendered 11 runs, 10 earned, on 12 hits over 14.2 innings. Over that stretch, Curtiss’ strikeout numbers were good (15), but his command struggled and he issued 10 walks. Since the beginning of June, Curtiss has give up just four earned runs in his last 21.1 innings, an ERA of 1.69, and has amassed 22 strikeouts with just eight walks. John has been particularly effec-tive in July with opponents hitting just .179 against the big right-hander.
