Ahoy Mateys
Welcome to the Fall Tuna Times! We have been very busy at the club this
summer, and thanks to Fleet Captain Jim Candia, very busy with outside ac-
tivities. The Angler of the Year Board is full, so be sure to check Rear Com-
modore Ron’s column—remember, the AOY awards will be presented at the
Commodore’s Cocktail Party on September 28. There was lots of action this
year for AOY. I would like to thank Vice Commodore Dan Tholen, and Rear
Commodore Ron Tholen for a tremendous Crab Fest, and a hearty thank you
to all our members who helped set up, man the grill, and also to Doug McCar-
ron and the galley crew for a job well done.
The Ladies had a great tournament (as usual!), and all had a great time. Their Junior AOY awards
will be presented on August 25th, at the family picnic.
As I write this, the FRTC’s 56th Annual Tournament begins with the Captain’s meeting on August
16th, ending on the 24th, with the awards and Family Picnic on Autust 25th. The Tournament Com-
mittee works very hard to ensure that our tournaments are well planned and carried through, so
please try to support our tournaments.
The FRTC has won the Tri-Club Award—it is on display at the club—congratulations to all who
fished that tournament on behalf of the club.
As of now, no New Years Eve party is planned, so if anyone would like to run it, please let Vice
Commodore Dan know, or, maybe if anyone is interested in renting the club for that night, please
let him know that also.
I presented our “State of the Club” report at the BOG meeting on August 8th. We are in pretty
good shape, however, we need to keep abreast of our expenditures and keep an eye towards the
future. In order to help our finances, the BOG has enacted a modest dues increase of $10.00 per
member for next year, which will cover our increase in our property taxes. In addition, the BOG
has also enacted a $50.00 Raffle, mandatory for each member. It was decided that in order to
keep our club running, cost of maintenance, equipment upkeep, etc., it was necessary to look
towards an avenue such as this to solve this problem.

The prizes are being determined and I will let you know as soon as the committee refers their
suggestions to me. This will be included in the dues notice that will be sent out this year.
Towards this end, please let me say, this was a very difficult decision for all involved, much dis-
cussion took place, and every recommendation was followed up. My Bridge and I, as well as the
BOG, are looking at any way we can to conserve spending; if anyone has any suggestions please let
us know. The membership committee has been busy recommending ways to attract new mem-
bers—PC Joe McLaughlin and his committee have put a new member FAQ sheet which answers
many questions a perspective new member may have. It is available at the club and please take
one and show it to any friends you think would make good members. If we filled our total member-
ship allowed, such increases would be drastically reduced or eliminated entirely.
Thank you for all your cooperation and support.
See you at the club and at the Commodore’s Cocktail party September 28.
Tight lines…………………..
Commodore Jerry Felitti ( Continued )
It is my pleasure to announce to all members of The Forked River Tuna Club
that we won the Joe Matuska Tri-Club-Tournament. We had an 8 fish total of
33.68 lbs. The Fish Hawks had an 8 fish total of 28.16 lbs and the Groundswip-
ers had an 8 fish total of 21.05 lbs. The trophy is back in the house with "OUR" name on
it. I want to personally thank all of the members that answered my emails by going out
and fishing for your club. It shows a lot of pride to come together as a club and "kick
butt" It was also very nice to have the Matuska family in attendance. Thank you all.

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. Fishing has been
great and there are a lot of things going on at the club. The Sep-
tember BOG is on the 12th, Fleet Captain Jim Candia is hosting a
wine brunch on the 15th and the 27th the General Membership
meeting. The Commodore’s Cocktail party is Saturday, September
28 and is free of charge, just bring a dish to share with about 80
people. We will be giving out the Angler of the Year Awards and
there is a 2-hour open bar, so come on down. The following Saturday, October 5, is the
Change of Watch.
I hope we can have a lot of club members in attendance, as this event is the most tradi-
tional party at the club. Please come down and support your club.
We now have a “Recruitment Membership committee”. I am the Chairman and Joe
McLaughlin, Skip Malik and Eric Engard are also on the committee. We will be actively
looking for new members. If you have anyone that may be interested in joining, please,
bring them down.
The club is also now a member of the ALS (American Littoral Society). We will be using
their fish tagging program. I will have kits of tags to sell when I am at the club and will
explain the process at the next meeting. If you are interested, please, stop in and see
me or email me at [email protected].

Women’s Club President Holly Candia
Let’s not forget our friends at the Lacey Food Bank. Please bring non-perishable items with you
when you come to the club. They need our help all year round. Thank you.
The “Crab Fest” on August 3rd was a great success. The band was
terrific, food was outstanding and the weather cooperated. Thanks
to Danny and the folks that helped out for putting on this event.
A couple of tie ups at Tices took place in August. An overnighter
was attempted at Tices but unfortunately the weather didn’t coop-
erate so the remainder the evening was spent in Cedar Creek. It
was a great time anyway and hopefully more to come.
Remember to bring me your fish weigh- in slips. There are not too
many ladies or young folks on the “Angler of Year” board. So get
out there and bring in the BIG ones.
Don’t forget, our September meeting will include the Installation of Officers for 2013-
2014. After several years of service, Vice President Joanne Plichta and Secretary
Karen Breathauer have decide to step down. I’d like to say what a pleasure it was work-
ing with them this past year. After the ceremony, there will be a small reception for
our incoming Officers, so come on out an do a little socializing!
A suggestion to have a Polish night was made and I think it is a good idea. Any Polish
folks (or not) that can make perogies and are interested in running the event, please let
me know.
If you have an idea for a club event or would like to host an event, please, see me or one
of the officers.
All you animal lovers out there, interested in helping out by giving a
free bowl of food to sheltered animals? All you need is a computer.
Go to theanimalrescuesite.com and click to give a free bowl of
food at no cost to you. You can be reminded to click for food daily,
just go to the bottom of their page and click on the underlined
words. Remember it doesn’t cost you anything to click, but means
the difference to many sheltered animals!
Thank you!
