LOCATION, INSTALLATION& SERVICES REQUIRED:

This section deals with the provision and connection of services that will be required for your cabinet to function correctly and advice on where to locate the cabinet. General: The equipment is designed to operate under the following ambient conditions:

• Suitable for indoor use only. • Ambient temperature range: 10ºC to 32ºC. • Ambient humidity range: Maximum relative humidity of 85% for ambient

temperatures up to 25ºC. • Note: Optimum performance of the cabinet is achieved when the ambient

temperature is within a 20 to 25ºC range. Location:

All refrigerated equipment generates heat as part of the normal operation. It is vital

for correct performance and reliability that adequate ventilation is provided to allow this heat to dissipate.

Any refrigerated equipment that is operated in a small unventilated area, especially in warm weather, can cause the compressor to overheat and may result in premature failure.NOTE: Failure to observe ventilation guidelines will void the manufacturer’s warranty! A minimum of 300mm above the cabinet and 300mm at the back and sides must be maintained at all times to ensure adequate air flow to dissipate heat generated by the refrigeration unit.

Do not store items on top of the cabinet as this will also affect ventilation! Note: On cabinets with the humidity option the water supply bottle is mounted on the top right side. CAUTION: When installing more than one cabinet in the same location ensure that they are positioned in such a way that warm air exhausted from one cabinet, is not drawn directly into the other cabinet.

Page 5: for - Zendesk · Thermoline supply a 30litre water tank complete with hose, drain tap, and connection fittings. Thi s tank should be elevated above the ultrasonic humidifier by at

Level: The cabinet should be standing on level ground to ensure correct operation of the self-closing door, and proper draining of condensate from the evaporator. Castors: The cabinet is fitted with castors for ease of movement to allow for cleaning under the cabinet. Where lockable castors are fitted they must be locked to prevent accidental cabinet movement. This can be achieved by pressing the lock-down tab with your foot. These castors are usually at the front of the cabinet; ensure that both castors are locked.

Mains Power: This cabinet is suitable for connection to a standard 240 volt, 50Hz, supply. A dedicated outlet should be used for the supply, do not use power boards or the like. Confirm that the power supply is suitable for this equipment; refer to the equipment rating plate for details. Water:

A water supply is required if the cabinet is fitted with optional Humidity control. The water supply can come from either town water or from gravity fed water reservoir placed on top of the cabinet.

If using a mains water connection, a pressure regulator must be fitted to reduce water pressure below 100kpa. If the pressure regulator is not fitted the fittings and hoses to the ultrasonic humidifier filters will be damaged!

Thermoline supply a 30litre water tank complete with hose, drain tap, and

connection fittings. This tank should be elevated above the ultrasonic humidifier by at least 200mm and filled with water; the tank would normally sit on the top right side of the cabinet. The gravity fed water supply has a number of advantages over a town water supply:

• Firstly, the water in the tank can be “treated water”: such as distilled water. This will increase the maintenance period of the water filters as the water will already be quite clean.

• Secondly, if the automatic water level controls were to fail or if there was a water leak, the worst spillage would be 30litres instead of a potential flood.

Co2 Supply (Optional). At the rear of the chamber is a ¼” barbed fitting labeled Co2 inlet. This is the inlet for the Co2. Connect a regulated Co2 supply to this point with set to a maximum pressure of 125kpa. (+/-25kpa). Make sure that when connecting the Co2 supply that is connected in a manner that will not leak. Use a hose clamp if necessary.See STAR-700 operating Guidelines on how to control the Co2. Drain:

Because we are controlling humidity levels inside the cabinet, there will be water coming out of the drain located on the side of the cabinet. There is also a drain valve and an overflow pipe in case of a malfunction. Therefore it is essential that the location for the cabinet has a floor drain for the water to flow into. Water from the cabinet will exit through a drain pipe on the right hand side of the cabinet, you will need to connect this drain pipe to the floor drain (see note below).

It is important that the cabinet drain pipe is connected to a suitable waste outlet (drain) at all times. Make sure that there are no restrictions in the drain pipe; It will need to cope with an overflow of 3litres per minute in the case of a fault. Assembly:

Shelves: 4 stainless steel clips are supplied per shelf. Determine the space required

between each shelf level, and simply hook the clips into the slotted strip attached to the walls. Place the shelves on top of the clips.

Door lighting: For cabinets with door lighting the lights are permanently mounted in the door enclosure.

Shelf lighting: For cabinets with shelf lighting there are 4 x shelf clips to support each shelf. As with the wire shelves, simply hook the clips into the slotted strip attached to the walls. Place the shelves on top of the clips.

Feed the cables for the light trays through the cable ports in the side of the cabinet. The cables for the light trays plug into sockets on the bracket at the rear of the cabinet.

The plugs push into the sockets and you turn the outer “ring” clockwise to lock them in place.

Ultrasonic Humidifier: Humidity Model (H) Cabinets may be supplied with the ultrasonic humidifier separately, and may require assembly.

• Mount the humidifier onto the side of the cabinet by sliding it into the bracket. • Connect the 2 x vapor hoses between the fittings on top of the humidifier and those

on the side of the cabinet. Make sure to use the hose clamps to hold the hoses securely in place.

• Connect the overflow and drain pipes on the humidifier to the black drain hose on the side of the cabinet.

• Connect the wiring plugs from the humidifier to the sockets at the rear of the cabinet. Note the “humidifier control” plug is female and the “humidifier power supply” plug is male so they cannot be mixed up. As with the plugs for the light trays turn the outer “ring” clockwise to lock them in place.

• If using the gravity feed water supply mount the tank on top of the cabinet and connect the 6mm tube to the “water inlet” on the filters.

• If mains water supply is used a pressure regulator should be used to keep the pressure below 100kpa!

• Make sure the “drain valve” on the black drain pipe is closed.

Installation:

• Locate the cabinet in a well-ventilated area on a firm level surface as described

earlier. The cabinet is fitted with castor wheels so that it can easily be moved during installation.

• Leave sufficient room at the rear and sides for air flow around the cabinet as previously described (30cm each side 30cm at the rear).

• Leave enough room in front of the door/s to allow them to open fully when loading the cabinet.

• Connect the drain pipe at the right side of the cabinet; to a suitable floor drain with flexible hose (drain pipe is 19mm diameter).

Page 9: for - Zendesk · Thermoline supply a 30litre water tank complete with hose, drain tap, and connection fittings. Thi s tank should be elevated above the ultrasonic humidifier by at

• If you are using the gravity feed water bottle the top of the cabinet is strong enough

to take the weight of a 30litre water bottle. Place the empty container onto the top of the cabinet prior to filling with water. Then carefully fill the water container with water. Do not attempt to fill the container then lift it on to the top of the cabinet. This could cause serious damage or injury to persons.

Extreme caution should be taken as not to spill or splash water onto the cabinet surface when filling the Water Container. Spillage of water onto the cabinet may result in equipment damage, personal injury or death.

• Note: When filling the bottle make sure that the small valve is closed until you

connect the water supply to the filters. After filling the bottle the valve can then be opened.

Valve closed Valve open

Loading Of Product into Cabinet:

All forced draught enclosures such as this one require constant air flow throughout the cabinet to maintain the desired temperature. Correct loading of the shelves must be considered for efficient refrigeration performance.

• Never block off air vents. • Allow sufficient space around the product on each shelf for air flow. • Distribute the load evenly over all of the shelves rather than stacking everything on

one shelf.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE: General cleaning: The interior, exterior, and door gasket can be cleaned as often as required using a soft cloth and soapy water. Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads as these will scratch the surface and may result in corrosion. Never use caustic type cleaning agents.

All cabinets have electrical components such as the temperature control, internal light, refrigeration condensing unit. These items should not be subjected to any levels of moisture. For example do not use a hose to wash down the incubator. Evidence of moisture entry into any electrical device will void the manufacturer’s warranty! Maintenance: Apart from normal levels of cleanliness, it is important that the refrigeration condenser is kept clean, the Ultrasonic Humidifier is maintained and the Floor Drain is checked for blockages. Failure to keep the condenser clean could lead to higher temperatures inside the cabinet, higher running costs, and often a failure of the compressor. A clean condenser is a critical factor in keeping the refrigerator operating correctly. The condenser should be cleaned at least 3 monthly, in some dusty locations this may need to be more frequent. By monitoring the amount “clogging” due to dust, the frequency of cleaning can be adjusted to keep it clean. Manufacturer’s warranty does not cover the failure of the compressor due to a blocked condenser. Cleaning the Condenser:

• The condenser is located at the top of the cabinet and requires the front panel to be removed to gain access. It looks like an assembly of aluminium fins with a fan arranged to blow air through it.

• Turn off the power at the power point before cleaning the condenser! • Using a stiff paint brush, carefully remove dust and dirt build-up from the condenser,

ensuring that dust is not pushed back into the condenser fins. The use of a vacuum cleaner will help in cleaning up the dislodged material.

• The condenser fins may be sharp, take care to avoid personal injury by not directly contacting them with your hands!

• The fin material is thin and can be easily bent, take care not to flatten the fins as this may affect the efficiency of the condenser.

Ultrasonic Humidifier.

The Ultrasonic Humidifier tank is constantly evaporating water. To maintain a long service life of the Ultrasonic Oscillator it is important that the tank has very clean filtered water. Failure to replace the Water filters on a regular basis will drastically reduce the life of the Oscillators. The Oscillators themselves are a consumable item with an expected life cycle of 5000hrs (Approximately 6 months). However due to the output of the controller the duty cycle of the oscillators could be approximately 50% which with regular maintenance and replacement of the filter regularly should last longer than 6 months.

Thermoline recommend that the Water filters should be replaced every 3 to 6months depending on the water quality being used. Failure to replace these filters on a regular basis will void the warranty applicable to the Ultrasonic Humidifier.

Contact Thermoline for replacement Water Filters. Do not rinse out the old Water

Filters and re-use. Floor Drain.

Due to the nature of products (Plant Material) that will be present inside the cabinet, it will be necessary to check the drains for blockages. Depending on the nature of a blockage due care will need to be taken. Do not try to force any blocked large particles through the drain. This will simply cause them to get blocked further down the drain. If necessary force water back into the outlet of the drain. Please note that the drain is manufactured from Irrigation tubing. It cannot cope with a lot of internal pressure. Be very careful when back flushing the drain. This will force any blocked particles back into the cabinet. Simply collect the debris and throw into a waste bin.

If this does not clear the blockage then the services of a qualified technician maybe

require.

You will notice that the indicator in the top right corner states that the Diurnal Cycle is Off. The Values below the heading ‘Safe Operating Value’ are the current set values and the controller will start to control these values. During ‘Safe Operating Value’ control, the Lights can only be manually operated by using the drop down menu underneath the heading ‘Lights (SOV)’. The ‘Lights SOV’ is a manual operation of the Lights, in the ON mode they are continually on and in the OFF mode they are continually off. To operate the Lights on a Diurnal Cycle the operator will need set up the Diurnal Cycle. To change the ‘Safe Operating Value’ simply touch the ‘Operating Value’ box. A popup numeric keypad is displayed. Type in the new value and press enter. The cabinet will automatically control the new ‘Safe OperatingValue’. The ‘Safe Operating Value’ has been designed to be set by the operator to a safe condition that will not cause damage to any of the Research, Experimental and/or Plant Material within the cabinet, in the event of a power failure. If the controller is operating in ‘Diurnal Cycle’ mode and there is a power failure, on resumption of power the ‘Diurnal Cycle’ mode will stop and the cabinet will be controlled at the ‘Safe Operating Value’.

Delayed Start of Diurnal Cycle. To allow more flexibility for the operator, when checking Research/Experimental work, we have incorporated a Delayed Start of the Diurnal Cycle Function. This delayed time is set by the operator to allow the Diurnal Cycle to follow a specific cycle in Real-time or at a time that is more suitable for the operator. Please understand that the Diurnal Cycle operates as a timer not on a real-time clock. For example if the operator needs to check Research/Experimental work during the Day Cycle when Lights are active they can delay the start of the Diurnal Cycle to allow the Day conditions to be achieved when they know what time of the day they will be available to check the research/experimental work. For example if the Diurnal Cycle is started at a real-time of 15:00hrs and the operator needs to check the research/experimental work during the Day Cycle conditions then the operator can set a delayed start of 9hrs. This would allow the Day Cycle Conditions to be achieved at a real-time of 12:00hrs (Midday) instead of a real-time of 03:00hrs as would occur if the Delayed Start of Diurnal Cycle was not set. When starting the Diurnal cycle with a delayed start time set, the actual conditions will ramp to the Night Set Values over the given Delayed Start of Diurnal Cycle time.

The LED Light Tray is supplied with a Remote Control Dimming unit that allows the operator to dim the LED’s to the required Intensity. The intensity of the LED’s will need to be pre-set by the operator prior to operating a Diurnal cycle. The pre-set dimming is held in memory by the dimming unit and every time the LED’s are turned on by the Diurnal cycle the pre-set dimming value is remembered.
