WHERE WILL YOU SERVE?

I still believe that to participate in the life of a United

Methodist Church is a great and grand calling. I thank

God for you and for your involvement here at Com-

merce FUMC in praying, in attending, in giving, and in

witnessing. That list means I have left out how you will

be involved here in serving.

The invitation is simple. Will you read the following? Will you pray

about your personal response? Will you contact the Leadership

Development and Nominations Committee so we can speak with

you about an area of serving?

Upcoming Mission Trip Opportunity!

Has the Lord laid it on your heart to serve on a mission team, but an

international trip just doesn’t fit for you? Red Bird Mission in Bev-

erly, Kentucky, tucked away in the remote hollows of Appala-

chia, just might be your calling. June 21 – 27, 2015, Commerce

Bird has been a UMC ministry since 1921, serving this isolated, im-

poverished community for almost 100 years. It has been called one

Great Day of Service is only one day a year but it reminds us of the tremendous needs that exist in our community and enables

us to work together in Christ to make the lives of others better and helps church members understand ways they can support

others year round. CFUMC will partner with Warren Chapel UMC and Homer UMC to serve those in our community.

Our mission. To serve our God by serving His people, reaching out in love to assist with basic physical,

relational, and spiritual needs through person-to-person and community ministries.

Program highlights:

Vacation Bible School – Younger children from Willoughby Homes and Bellview Homes have an

opportunity to experience a half day of music, storytelling, recreation, crafts and more.

Cookie Coloring – Children and parents join assisted living seniors at Peachtree Village to decorate

“face” cookies using candy eyes, frosting and sprinkles.

Sewing projects for Missions –Volunteers at CFUMC will use their sewing talents to make various items for missions.

Feed Our Sheep Food Drive- Church volunteers solicit food contributions from church members, local grocery stores and

Food Bank for distribution to needy at Warren Chapel UMC.

Community and Chapel Prayers –Those wishing to serve through prayer conduct a community prayer walk and meet in

the CFUMC Chapel to pray for the success of the day’s programs.

Letter Writing – Volunteers write letters to overseas military and shut-ins. Everything is supplied by the church to conduct

this valued service.

Wellspring Camp – Church volunteers provide lawn care to this Christian camp for children and adults with special needs

and their sponsors.

Peace Place Inc. – Peace Place. Church member’s stock shelves, clean the store’s interior and improve the center’s exte-

rior for this community based resale store.

In-Community Cleaning and Yard Services –Church members visit local homes to do cleaning, repair and outside lawn

work for individuals in Jackson and Banks counties.

Homemade Bread Baking – Home baking for delivery to community residents. Volunteers bake bread and bring it to

CFUMC for further distribution to the needy.

Feed the Homeless– Volunteers needed to make 120 bag lunches to hand out to homeless in the Athens area at Athens

First Baptist Church.

How to participate. Register on Sunday mornings at CFUMC or contact Craig Gieler, [email protected] for more infor-

mation!
