(north side) Registration of your dogDog registration is due on 1 July each year. Registration starts when a dog reaches the age of three months old and then 1 July after that.
From 1 July 2006 all newly registered and some currently registered dogs are required to be micro chipped.
Dog owners can apply to the Council to become ‘approved’ dog owners, and subject to meeting a number of conditions can pay a reduced registration fee.

Dog Control ZonesImportant things to remember when out with your dogIn relation to any public area all dogs must be kepton-leashunlessspecifiedotherwiseintheCouncil’s Dog Control Bylaw 2008, Council signage or the maps in this brochure.
Whilethesemapsprovideaspecificindicationof dog zones in certain parks, reserves, and open spaces within the District, they do not cover every single reserve or open space. Any public space not given a designation automatically becomes a dog on-leash area.
Please make yourself aware of the designated ‘No Dog’ zones in the District, areas include: some shopping centres, all childrens play areas, popular parts of the beach over summer and inside the marked boundaries of all sportsfields.Dogscanbewalked‘on-leash’aroundtheedgeofsportsfieldswhenasportsor training event is not being held.
TherearedesignatedareasaroundKāpitiwhere dogs can be exercised without a leash all-year-round. Please note that dogs are required to be under direct control in all dog exercise areas at all times.
Uncontrolled or unregistered dogs will be impounded.
All dog owners or person/s responsible for a dog in a public place must at all times carry an appropriate leash and a bag or container for removing their dog poos. If your dog poos in a public place, you need to clean up after them-bagitandbinit.Instantfinescanbeissued to owners who do not clean up after their dogs.
Ensure your dog does not annoy or cause nuisance to other members of the public.
