Animals have been a subject for artists for many centuries. Term 3 we are inviting Stage 1 Students to showcase their talents by creating their own artworks featuring animals. Artworks that are on display will be a point of focus and inspiration.

Students will begin the day by attending a guided tour of our current exhibitions depicting animals. The remainder of the day will include a printmaking workshop as well as drawing activities. Teachers can nominate 4 students per year level.

CIRCLE IN THE ROUNDuntil 20 August Dickson Gallery

As with jazz, improvisation is at the heart of Illawarra painter Brian Hartigan’s work. This survey takes its title from one of his favourite Miles Davis albums. The term ‘in the round’ – normally applied to three-dimensional sculpture – has particular relevance to his work, which is concerned with the three-dimensional illusion in painting.

These new works are both homage to the roles animals play in the theatre of war and a metaphor for the loss of innocence. They contemplate the courage it takes to remain vulnerable and hopeful in the face of hostility and the wreckage of the past.
