April Highlights 13 Palm Sunday Holy Week 18 Good Friday – Divine Mercy Novena begins

20 Easter 27 Divine Mercy Sunday and Canonization of Bl. John Paul II Bl. John XXIII

Spiritual Insights from Fr. Zachary of the Mother of God, SOLT

Fr. Zachary tells us to pray that we have the ability to pray, to bring ourselves into a state of humility and total dependence on Mary to help us. Father highly recommended that three times a day we bring souls to Our Lady. This, he believes, could transform the world.

Father remarked that the Samaritan woman who encountered Jesus at the well became the first missionary, eagerly telling others about Jesus. Pope Francis reminds us to leave our comfort zone and became missionaries. Fr. Zachary asks how are we responding to this invitation to be missionaries?

In these last weeks of Lent let us embrace the cross with enthusiasm and perseverance. Mary is with us at this time, and always, to help us live according to God’s plan.

Wisdom of St. John Paul II “From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s will in all things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ her Son and the Son of God.” St. John XXIII Papacy Oct. 28, 1958 to June 3, 1963. He called the historic second Vatican Council. He was devoted to St. Joseph and to the Rosary, praying three Rosaries daily. In the Diocese of Phoenix there is an elementary school bearing his name.

April Program Guests Bishop Thomas Olmsted will be with us three times Fr. Rob Clements, Pastor/Director of All Saints New- man Center, ASU Fr. James Kubicki, SJ, Nat’l Director of the Apostleship

of Prayer, will be with us several times. Fr. Kurt Perera of Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral Fr. Paul Sullivan, Director of the Office of Vocations will

Help us prepare for Holy Week.

Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem will record the Rosary this month. It will be aired monthly for fellow Christians who are enduring great trial in the Holy Land.

Groups to Record Rosaries Our goal is for every parish, organization, Cath-olic school, prayer group to participate on the Rosary Program by leading the Rosary. For info on participation, call Dorothy 602-944-6811.

Confession to Prepare for Easter Pope Francis frequently talks about “mercy and grace.” He assures us that God is always ready to welcome us back. Many parishes now have extended hours of Confession. Let us pray to the Holy Spirit that those in need of Confession (all of us) will take advantage of this Lenten opportunity.

Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27 Divine Mercy Sunday focuses on rededication

to living and proclaiming Christ’s Mercy.

Order Novena Leaflets Today Be an Apostle of Mercy. Someone has donated six hundred copies of the Divine Mercy Novena. These are available to newsletter readers to share with others. Traditionally the Novena starts on Good Friday but can be prayed any time. God wants to extend His mercy to the whole world and we can be instruments of that mercy. Write to us for leaflets or call Genevieve at 602-954-0316. Many Divine Mercy celebrations will be held in the Diocese. See website for update. Give the website here…

St. Louis de Monfort

St. Louis de Montfort (1673 to 1716) Feast April 28

During his life of 43 years, St. Louis de Montfort met with great opposition. His writings reappeared 100 years after

his death and are very popular today. He is best known for his books True Devotion to Mary and The Secret of the Rosary. He was canonized in 1947. He foresaw a group of laity widely believed to be the Legion of Mary (which was founded 1921), striving for personal sanctification and bringing souls to Christ through Mary. The Secret of Rosary available through RFR for $4 donation. See Page 3. His parish missions drew ignoramus crowds. His life was short but legacy has endured through the centuries. St. Catherine Siena. She had greatly influence. She had the ear of the Pope. She is a doctor of Church I think. God granted her great insights. We have a Church named after her in South Phoenix.

The cardinal specified that Pope Francis "has given a privileged place to the poor, the marginalized, to all those who suffer." The cardinal in Portugal.

Days Following Easter Jesus’ last 40 days on earth following Easter (Gospels, Acts 1:1-12) were a triumphant time.

Jesus ate with His disciples, instructed them and gave the great commission “make disciples of all nations.” He told Peter to feed His lambs, tend His sheep. Paul records that Jesus was seen not only by His disciples but also by 500 people at one time.

A Pro-life Prayer for Our President and Public Officials

Lord, God, Author of Life and Source of Eternal Life. Move the hearts of all our public officials and especially our President, to fulfill their responsibil-ities worthily and well to all those entrusted to their care. Help them in their special leadership roles, to extend the mantle of protection to the most vulner-able, especially the defenseless unborn, whose live are threatened with extermination by an indifferent society. Guide all public officials by your wisdom and grace to cease supporting any law that fails to protect the fundamental good that is human life itself, which is a gift from God and parents. You are the Protector and Defender of the lives of the innocent unborn. Change the hearts of those who compromise the call to protect and defend life. Bring our nation to the values that have made us a great nation, a society that upholds the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Mary, the Mother of the living, help us to bear witness to the Gospel of Life with our lives and our laws, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen Imprimatur: January 22, 2009

Pope Francis’ Plea “Implore the intercession of the Virgin Mary,

St. Joseph, Ss. Peter and Paul and St. Francis, that the Holy Spirit accompany my ministry,

and I ask all of you to pray for me! Amen.” - Pope Francis, March 19, 2013

“Be Protectors of God’sGifts” Highlights from Pope Francis’ Inaugural Homily

March 19, 2013 – Feast of Saint Joseph + Joseph acts “discreetly, humbly and silently”

with “unfailing presence and utter fidelity, even when he finds it difficult to understand.” + Joseph was “constantly attentive to God, open to the signs of God’s presence and receptive to God’s plan …not his own.” + Although Joseph was strong, courageous and hard working, “in his

8

heart we see great tenderness…genuine openness to others.”

+ Christ is “the core of a Christian vocation.” +“Let us protect Christ in our lives, so that we can protect others, so that we can protect creation!” + Being a protector includes loving concern for everyone, especially children, the elderly, those in need. + Being a protector means protecting spouses and children, and children, in time, protecting parents. + Being a protector “means building sincere friendships in which we protect one another in trust, respect, and goodness.”

+ When we fail in these concerns, “the way is opened to destruction and hearts are hardened…there are ‘Herods’ who plot death, wreak havoc...” + A protector must keep watch over oneself, guarding against hatred, envy and pride. + In Christ’s command to Peter, “Feed My lambs, feed My sheep,” we see that “…authentic power is service…which has its radiant culmination on the Cross.” + “Only those who serve with love are able to protect.” + To look upon others “with tenderness and love…” opens up “a horizon of hope.” + “We must not be afraid of goodness, or even tenderness!” Pope Francis, Model of His Patron

Our Holy Father’s first message asked for our prayers. He called us to protect all that God has created, including all people from the children in the womb to the elderly, as well as God’s gifts of natural resources. Pope Francis is a model of simplicity, poverty, humility and obedience by the example of his patron, St. Francis of Assisi. This saint, although romanticized as a simple lover of animals and plants, was in fact zealous and courageous. God’s message to Francis, “rebuild My Church” resulted in wide-spread spiritual

Paul II, in calling for unceasing adoration asks us to be “ready” to sacrifice that we may “make reparation for the great faults and crimes of the world” (Dominicae Cenae, Ch. I, Sec. 2, Art. 3)

Reprinted from the Missionaries of the Blessed Sacrament monthly publication Sept. 2001.

Although the Gospels do not record it, we may be sure that Our Lady was the first to experience the Light of the Risen Christ. One of our beautiful liturgies is the Easter Vigil. It begins in the dark, then the paschal candle is lit, representing the Light of Christ. The light spreads until the entire church is aglow.

As Catholic Christians we are called to bring the Light of Christ, the Light of the World, to all those we encounter. We can do this by our virtuous example, our cheerfulness, patience, kindness, consideration, willingness to help. We have been reminded, “You are the only gospel some people will ever read.” By our prayers and sacrifices we can also bring Christ’s Light to people we may never meet: to people on the other side of the world, to mothers and the children in the womb, to the sick and suffering and homeless, military personnel and prisoners.

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia,

has risen has He said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia

Pro-life Prayer of Pope John Paul II O Mary, we entrust to you the cause of life.

Look down upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born. Grant all who believe in your Son to proclaim the Gospel of Life.

Obtain for them the grace to accept the Gospel as a gift ever new,

to bear witness to it resolutely, to praise and glorify God, the Creator and Lover of Life.

Amen

Parish Representatives Needed. These are people who will put a monthly Radio Family Rosary notice in their parish bulletin and will help distribute newsletters. This is a fun task that helps promote Our Lady’s Rosary Program. Call Anne at 602-864-9857 for more information.

3:00 P.M. “ Hour of Great Mercy” Jesus asks us to recall at 3 P.M. his suffering and death. He told St. Faustina: “At three o’clock implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world… In this hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion.” Suggested prayer for 3 P.M.: “O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.” Say often every day: “Jesus, I trust in You.”

Easter celebrates the highlight of our Christian belief. It is time of renewal and rebirth. It is time in which we reflect on the blessing of God’s gift of the promise of eternal life. God’s triumph over death is the message of Easter which we

acknowledge and in which we rejoice. We at Radio Family Rosary pray that the joy and blessings of this Easter Season will be you and your loved ones. The Divine Mercy Message Is Urgent in This Age of Immorality and

Terror

The Sunday after Easter is Divine Mercy Sunday, April 11 The feast is observed by the Universal Church. When Jesus requested this feast, He told St. Faustina: “The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgive- ness of sins and punishment… Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.” The Sacrament of Reconciliation should be received within eight days before the feast or after. Jesus indicated that worthy reception of Communion on this day restores the soul to baptismal innocence.

How to Make Divine Mercy Novena, which begins on Good Friday, April 6

The Divine Mercy Novena, which Jesus requested of St. Faustina, begins on Good Friday and should include the Chaplet of Divine Mercy each day, plus prayers for these intentions:

First day: All mankind, especially sinners. Second day: The souls of priests and religious. Third day: All devout and faithful souls. Fourth day: Those who do not believe in Me and those who do not yet know Me. Fifth day: The souls of the separated brethren. Sixth day: The meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. Seventh day: The souls who especially venerate and glorify My mercy.

Eighth day: The souls who are in Purgatory. Ninth day: Souls who have become lukewarm
