Yoshi, located in the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo, opened in December 2008 and serves contemporary Japanese food, reinterpreted by Joel Robuchon, the chef who can claim the most Michelin stars in the world, with 26 stars in the current Michelin Guide. The design of the restaurant reflects Joel Robuchon's poetic and modern view of Japan. "I'm very happy to share this success with everyone at Yoshi and with the team at the Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo,"

stated Joel Robuchon. "I am proud of the work they have done in the past fifteen months. They have achieved the extremely high standards that I set when we first started working together." Japanese chef Takeo Yamazaki creates typically Japanese dishes with a modern twist. His inventive menu is based on traditional ingredients and brings out the subtle flavors of his native Japan. Takeo Yamazaki studied with Joel Robuchon for 14 years in Robuchon's first restaurant in Japan, the Château Robuchon in Tokyo. Awards and Distinctions

The country may not be much bigger than New York City's Central Park, but the tiny Principality of Monaco walked off with three big prizes at the 2010 British Meeting and Incentive Travel Magazine Awards. The Fairmont Monte Carlo, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, and the Monaco Convention Bureau were all voted number one in their respective cate- gory. More than 7,600 readers voted on 22 categories. The Fairmont Monte Carlo was among 274 nominees in its category of Best Hotels and won the top award ahead of other prestigious establishments such as the Ritz Carlton Arts in Barcelona, the Four Seasons in Istanbul and Malta's Hilton Hotel. The Grimaldi Forum Monaco was voted Best Congress Center for the seventh time in the last eight years beating its rivals in Cape Town, in Vancouver and in Singapore. The triple gold recognition of the destination of Monaco is the perfect reflection of its slogan "Need a venue, we offer you a country".

Founded by Prince Albert 1 in the early 20th century, the Oceanographic Museum is known for its prestigious setting, famous aquarium, historic collections, themed exhibitions, and famed director Jacques Cousteau (from 1957 to 1988). In prepara- tion for the celebrations of its 100th anniversary, the museum underwent an ambi- tious program of renovation that included its meeting space. A variety of venues and incentive activities are now available in the remodeled legendary museum. On the ground floor, the Lecture Hall, offering grandiose proportions and rich classic fur- niture and décor, is available for seminars, presentations, gala dinners and cocktail receptions. This historic venue can accommodate 264 people in theater style, 500 for a cocktail reception and 250 for a sit-down dinner. Also located on the ground floor, the Entrance Hall, featuring two colossal staircases and an authentic mosaic floor, can accommodate 150 people for a cocktail and 60 for a sit-down dinner. On the second floor, the Albert 1 Room and the Whale Room host a permanent collec-

tion featuring archives, photographs, and giant skeletons. These two venues combined can fit 400 people for a cock- tail reception. The roof top, offering breathtaking views of the coastline, can host 200 people for a cocktail and for a sit-down dinner. On the lower level of the building, the world-renowned aquarium gathers 400 fish, 300 inverte- brate, and 100 coral species. It also features the Shark Lagoon, a giant 20 foot deep shark tank with 12 inch thick glass windows. The Aquarium presents excellent opportunities to impress groups of up to 600 people for a cocktail reception. Interactive workshops can be organized for small groups to help raise awareness about the beau- ty and fragility of Mediterranean ecosystems. Exclusive "Behind-The- Scene" VIP tours can be organized for small groups. They consist of capti- vating tours of the areas, usually closed to the public, reserved for quar- antine, acclimation, treatment and breeding of species. The entire build- ing can be privatized for groups up to 1,400 people. Contact group sales at (+377) 93 15 36 00 or via email at [email protected].

Fairmont Monte Carlo Awarded Four Prizes

Three Gold Medals for Monaco

After setting her distinguished seal on the new identity of the Monte Carlo Beach which was unanimously acclaimed by the international press, India Mahdavi is pursuing the metamorphosis by revamping the hotel's exterior. Working closely with her is landscaper, Jean Mus, who designed the Mediterranean gardens of the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel. The outdoor areas of the hotel, more than its interior, have been most reminiscent of the legend of the Monte Carlo Beach since the Roaring Twenties. The Riveria's most famous Olympic-size pool now unveils a lovely lining in polychrome mosaic. The terrace of Le Deck and the facades of the adjoining buildings now blend together in the Beach's new color, terra-cotta red. The congenial bar and ice-cream parlor, a favored spot of the regulars, had a slight location shift and now opens up to a magnificent view of the coast line. The second part of this rebirth is the creation of a spa offering a hammam and three luxurious treatment rooms using the products from the La Prairie line and the knowledge of Les Themes Marins of Monte-Carlo. In December 2009, the Monte Carlo Beach officially joined the league of the most luxurious hotels in Monaco by acquiring its fifth star. DMC Updates

For years, many American clients, including cruise lines, have relied on the professional expertise of Monaco-based Cambiaso Risso for planning shore excursions in Monaco and along the French and Italian Rivieras. In early January, an incentive and convention department was established now making Cambiaso Risso a full-service DMC operating in the Principality and southern France. Services include: hotel accommodations, transportation, audio-visual equip-

ment for conferences, customized tours, sports and team-building activities as well as gala evenings. Cambiaso Risso offers exciting new activities including: behind the scenes tours of studios of the Monte-Carlo Ballet Company, introduction to Feng Shui principles in Monaco, vintage car rallies, helicopter tours to provincial restaurants, art classes, and geological walking tours among other activities. The team is led by Philippe Borsarelli (left) who has more than 25 years of DMC experience in Monaco and the Côte d'Azur. He says: "Opening a new MICE department is a thrilling challenge. We have updated our website, we like what is new and fresh, and hope new customers will

be seduced by our incentive programs, including the eco-friendly ones. We propose another approach to our desti- nation, especially for repeaters, and arrange meetings with people who are passionate about what they do: painters, avant-garde glass blowers and ceramists, authors, wine experts, even a baker." The Brasserie of Monaco, a New Type of Micro-Brewery The Brasserie of Monaco , originally founded in 1905 at the instigation of Prince Albert I, reopened in August 2008 on the shores of Monaco's yacht-filled harbor. The Brasserie recently teamed up with the world's oldest brewery equipment manufacturer, the German company, Kaspar Schulz (in business since 1677) and the result is a 264 gallon boutique brewery. Five stainless steel fermenting tanks and four service tanks, located in the main area of the venue make up the Brasserie's décor, and an innovative, entirely automated brewing system uses the brew master's hand-selected organic malts to produce a delicious, authentic local beer.

With its contemporary bar mixing aluminum and unfinished wood, modern furniture, use of glass playing with reflections, and giant screens, the Brasserie of Monaco offers a new type of micro-brewery combining modern design and technology. The Brasserie of Monaco can be privatized any day of the week. The indoor space can accommodate 200 people for a sit-down dinner and 400 people for a cocktail reception. The indoor space combined with the ter- race, overlooking the harbor and the Prince's Palace, can accommodate 450 people for a sit-down dinner and 1,000 people for a cocktail reception. For group reservation, contact Stephanie Lecomte at (+33) 6 78 63 54 00 or via email at [email protected].
