Terminology: Food Protection• Food Protection (FDA, 2007): Address food safety and food defense (including
food fraud/ EMA) (FDA 2007).
• Food Fraud: Illegal deception for economic gain using food (all types of fraud) (ISO 2005, ISO 2011, European Parliament 2013, DEFRA 2014, GFSI 2014, CFSA 2015, CFSA 2015, Spink 2011).
• Food Defense (GFSI): Protect against intentional acts that have intent to harm.
• Food Defense (FSMA-IA): Protecting against “wide-scale [human] health harm” -- or essentially the health hazards from food terrorism.
