Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting 1 to 3% of the world population. It canbe very impairing and painful for the daily life of the patients. Other than the aching and the itching, psoriasis has often an impairing impact over the quality of life, bringing about frequentstigmatisation and social rejection, which is dreadfully experienced by the patients. Joints can bepainfully affected in a quick and impairing way, adding to the social handicap a functional handicap.Multiple co-morbidities are associated with psoriasis: hypertension, blood lipid increase, diabetes, fatty liver, arteriosclerosis, heart attack.

Many treatments exist but there is a diversity of clinical cases and of therapeutic strategies. Thedifficulty is to match the best treatment to the needs of the individual patient. To do so, centresof expertise on psoriasis have to be created and developed at both local and global levels, inorder to gather all the health professionals involved in psoriasis. That is why efforts should becontinued to foster a better health care for psoriatic patients, adapted to each economic and social context.

To help psoriatic patients from all over the world, the Fondation rené Touraine initiated in 2005the psoriasis International network.
