Basic Recipe• Butter Cookies (Makes 5 dozen)

2/3 cup of butter1/4 cup of sugar2 eggs3 cups of flour1 1/2 teaspoons of salt2 teaspoons of baking powder1 teaspoon of vanilla extractSugar, to sprinkle

Cream butter, sugar and eggs together in bowl until light and foamy. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together into separate bowl,  stir into egg mixture. Stir in vanilla, mix until smooth. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350ºF. roll chilled dough out to 1/4 inch thickness on lightly floured work surface. Cut into desired shapes, sprinkle with sugar and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
