It’s all About the Maths….. Our overall Christmas Maths puzzle winner for KS3 was Y7 pupil Woody Ham. Most creatively presented solution was won by Georgina Rayner, Y8 with special mentions for Lorna Kerr, Y7 and Rowan Horton, Y9. A KS5 special mention for Michael Cavaliere.

Congratulations to sixth formers Rory Gallagher and Michael Cavaliere who were invited to participate in the Senior Mathematics Kangaroo. Only 8% of the 78,000 initial entrants were invited back with Michael Cavaliere attaining Merit (top 25%) and Rory Gallagher gaining a Certificate.

Busy Boarding Week... Old Grovian parent Maston Daniel and son Dominic helped Boarders to celebrate Chinese New Year with some fantastic fireworks last week-end. This was followed by a superb buffet from the catering team in the dining room and traditional dumpling making in Miller.

Celebrating UK culture last week with our Burns’ night. Boarders enjoyed some Scottish dancing from sixth former, Kateryna Voronina, bag-pipes and of course some haggis, neeps and tatties. Thanks to everyone involved.

Netball…. Our U19 Netballers have qualified for the National Finals in Welwyn Garden City in March by winning the Yorkshire Regional Finals beating Sheffield 18-7; GSAL 17-8; HGS 18-9 & QE 14-10.

We are also really proud of our U14, who won 5 out of 7 matches and our U16, who won 6 out of 7 at the Yorkshire finals. It was very tight at the top and both teams finished 3rd on points difference.

Recent Football News…. Woodhouse Grove A came 3rd and Woodhouse Grove B came 4th in the St Peter’s Senior six a-side tournament. A week later the 1st XI and the 2nd XI both suffered narrow defeats to St Peter’s.

Against Huddersfield Grammar our U12 lost and U14 drew and against Hull Collegiate our U12 (team 1) lost 3-2, U12 (team 2) draw 2-2, U13 won 5-2, U14 won 8-0 and U15 lost 6-1.

Congratulations to James Edgley, Y9 who has been offered a professional contract with Bradford City U14 academy team until the end of the season.

Well done to Jonny White who has again been selected to play for the ISFA U17 National side against Brighton and Hove Albion in February. This follows his contribution to the team’s win over Sheffield United Academy 3-1.

Congratulations also to Daniel Francis who has been selected for the ISFA U18 national side for the game against Welsh Schools in February.

Cross Country... Maisey Bellwood, Y7 won the U13 Girls Northern Cross Country Club Championships last weekend on a very muddy course, another title to add to her list. Archie Peaker, Y7 came 11th in the U13 boys race with Ben Hill, Y9, 54th in the boys U15 race.

Thanks to everyone involved in the two day ISI compliance inspection earlier this week. We are still awaiting the results and feedback but we were commended on those pupils with whom the Inspectors came into contact, calling them ‘wonderful ambassadors’ for the school.
