The Elder Board has called a special

meeting of the congregation for Sunday,

September 9, at 12:10pm. The purpose

of the meeting is to make a minor

revision of Bylaw #3, paragraph 1.

The need for the change has occurred

due to a conflict in schedule with our

World Outreach Conference.

The C&MA National Office makes the

schedule for missionary conferences for

churches on the Interdistrict Tour. We

are scheduled for November 4-11. Our

Congregational Meeting is scheduled for

November 11, as well.

By making this small revision to our

Bylaws, the Elders may then select an

appropriate date suitable to conduct the

business of the church without

interfering with the World Outreach

Conference (or other future events or

occurrences that make the date of the

Congregational Meeting unsuitable).

The revision would be the inclusion of

the following sentence in the first

paragraph of Bylaw #3:

“The Elder Board has the authority to

change the dates of the Congregational

Meeting when deemed in the best

interest of the congregation.”

Vacation Bible School Registration

It’s not too late to register your children for Vacation Bible School! VBS begins on

Monday, August 6, and runs through Friday, August 10, 9:00am to noon, for children

age 5 through grade 6. See page 8 for details.

The first paragraph of Bylaw #3 would

then read:

Annual Meetings. The Annual Meeting

for the election of officers and approval

of the following calendar year’s budget

shall convene in its regular place of

worship on the second Sunday evening

of November each year. The Elder Board

has the authority to change the dates of

the Congregational Meeting when

deemed in the best interest of the

congregation. Ballot counting shall be

performed by two (2) or three (3) ballot

counters who are not listed on the ballot

or are not immediate family members of

someone listed on the ballot. All

Counters shall each count all the

ballots. All tally sheets are to be signed

by the Counters and turned over to the

Governing Board Secretary along with all

ballots. The tally sheets and ballots are

to be kept on hand for a period of time

not less than six (6) months.

As you can tell by the time and date of

the Special Congregational Meeting, our

meeting will follow the 10:45am service.

We believe that the meeting will be brief

since there is only one item of business.

Sunday School - “A Place for Growing… A Place for YOU!” Our youth Sunday School class meets at 9:15am in rooms 225-235. Our children’s Sunday School classes

also begin at 9:15am. Check the bulletin board in the Children’s Ministry wing for room assignments.

Children (infant through grade 6) have a chance to encounter Jesus in a fun and interactive way. Group’s

“Hands On Bible” curriculum is used for our toddlers through grade 4. Children have the opportunity to get

their “hands on” and their minds around the life giving truth of the Bible, which helps them become fully

devoted followers of God. Our grade 5 and 6 children participate in Group’s “Grapple”, a challenging and

thought provoking program that helps them grapple with issues that face our pre-teens today.

Adult classes are offered at 9:15 and 10:45am. Be sure to note the time that the class you choose is

offered. It’s never too late to join a class. If you can’t be here every Sunday, that’s OK - come whenever you

can. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn something new and connect with people. Brochures are available at

the rack in the Narthex.

9:15am Proverbs - Teacher: John Cogan The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom. This book was begun by King Solomon and completed by King

Hezekiah. It was written as a text book to teach young people to live according to godly wisdom. It begins

with the premise that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. It then develops themes having to do

with everyday life decisions based on godly wisdom. We will study some of the main themes in the book. It

will not be an exhaustive study, but we will see how to read the book to mine its riches and apply them to

our daily lives. Location: Rooms 230/240

9:15am “Guardrails” by Andy Stanley - Teacher: Joe Szurek Guardrails: a system designed to keep vehicles from straying into dangerous or off-limit areas. They are

everywhere, but they don't really get much attention… until somebody hits one. And then, more often than

not, it is a lifesaver. Ever wonder what it would be like to have guardrails in other areas of your life - areas

where culture baits you to the edge of disaster and then chastises you when you step across the line? Your

friendships. Your finances. Your marriage. Maybe your greatest regret could have been avoided if you had

established guardrails. Location: Conference Room 550

10:45 “Twisting the Truth” by Andy Stanley - Teachers: Dr. Bob Statler and Kevin Dail Our postmodern society is expert at distorting the truth. How can we learn to discern in a culture of

deception? In this five-session curriculum, Andy Stanley exposes four destructive lies about authority, pain,

sex and sin. His straightforward insights will help you exchange the falsehoods of our day for the life-

changing truths of Scripture.

“We exist to teach God’s Word to all ages to provide the cornerstone

that will lead to salvation and a deeper, personal relationship with the Lord.”

The committee’s monthly visit to Weatherwood Manor Assisted Living will take place on

complete a new registration form for each of their children even if you completed one in

the past. Updated registration helps to insure your child’s safety while attending our

emergency purposes only. These forms will be used for all Children’s Ministry functions,

including Sunday and Wednesday activities.

Registration forms will be available at a table in the Narthex and at the Children’s

Ministry registration desk beginning Sunday, August 12. Completed forms need to be

returned as soon as possible in order to make security preparation for the fall Awana

session. Thank you for your cooperation!

Fall is fast approaching, and that means Bible Quizzing will soon be starting up again!

Quizzing is a fun, competitive way to learn God’s Word and meet new friends from area

churches. It is open to any student in grades 3 through 12.

This year we will be studying the Gospel of Matthew. Each month the quizzers will be

working on a few specific chapters. Beginning on September 2, our practices will be held

Sunday mornings from 8:30am to 10:00am (room to be announced later). Quiz matches

are held once a month, starting in October and are usually the first Saturday of the month.

We encourage any students interested in learning Scripture to join us. There are three

divisions of quizzing: Juniors (grades 3-6), Senior B for teens who are new to the program

and Senior A for more competitive teens.
