Current research recommends three actions thatcan significantly slow the spread of COVID-19:wash your hands often, maintain physicaldistancing, and wear a face covering regardless ofthe presence of symptoms.
I am a mask evangelist and today I'm making astronger appeal for the wearing of face coverings.
I learned a long time ago that it isn't easy to changesomeone's mind. Humans tend to seek outexperiences and information that confirms already-held beliefs. We tend not to like too much change,we want to be with those with whom we feel mostcomfortable, and we like to wrap ourselvessecurely in the familiar.
I could:
Provide links to scientific studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of faces beingcovered in social situations;
Point to numerous experts that offer evidence of slowed transmission of COVID-19 whenface coverings are used properly and consistently;
Reference the Executive Order that requires face coverings when inside businesses.
Knowing the difficulty of changing a mind has never really stopped me from plowingahead, I'm afraid.
For those who are resistant to face coverings, I am unabashedly appealing to yourcompassionate side. Can you lay aside your resistance and think of the person on theother side of the register, the person you pass in the grocery aisle, those for whom thethreat of contracting this virus is a real fear?
Goodness knows there is enough that separates us now; can we lay aside some of ourdifferences and come together for the good of all? Can we care enough for our family,friends, and neighbors to set aside minor inconveniences in order to move towardsomething approaching normal?
Ultimately, I know you will do what you will do. But if there is any little crack in yourresistance, I would happily widen that crack until resistance falls away.

The Fluvanna Business Recovery Loan is a microloan intended to provide existingbusinesses in Fluvanna County funds to restart operations once the COVID-19 pandemicsubsides. The funds are made available by Fluvanna County with additional privatesupport. CIC will administer the loans as part of its microloan program. The fund will offermicroloans up to $5,000. learn more

Checking email, printing documents, filing for unemploymentand other benefits, etc. We are offering this service because we knowmany need this access, please be respectful and use it for somethingyou NEED.Appointments are for 45 minutes only and there are guidelines! Masks required.Appointments are by phone only. To make an appointment call the Library at (434) 589-1400 during operating hours. Appointments can be made no more than 7 days in advance.
