Lorraine Heart from Age UK Solihull came in to school to talk about the issues elderly people in the UK face and how they can help. Lorraine also brought along a stack of £5 notes and lots of ideas of how pupils came make their money grow. Each child will get £5 and it is up to them to work in teams to raise the most money. A buzz quickly went round the room and ideas of selling cupcakes, a football challenge, selling arts and crafts all started to be talked about. They will use their own FLARE time on a Friday afternoon over the next 4 weeks and at the end will give back the £5 plus whatever they have raised. Howard Rose, Funding & Publicity Manager from Balsall Common Primary School said, “this is such a great charity and we are proud to support it. Its such a novel idea that encourages both entrepreneurship and charity. I am sure it will be a great success” Lorraine Hart, Fundraising Manager at Age UK Solihull said, “The children were really enthusiastic about the idea, especially as the money they raise will help older people in the Solihull area, which could include their grandparents, aunties and uncles and neighbours. This is the first time we have run the campaign with a school and I can’t wait to see what the winning idea is”. If you are a school interested in taking part in ‘Flourishing Fivers’ to raise money for Age UK Solihull call 0121 704 3361 or email [email protected]
