OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS

If you are interested in learning more about, or becoming more involved with PTA, here is the perfect way to do that. The Oregon PTA Leader- ship Conference & Convention is coming April 19 & 20, in Portland. Florence PTA will pay for the registration and overnight stay for it’s delegates. Early bird registration ends March 1st, so we need to get our names in before then. PARENT INVOLVEMENT MATTERS! When parents get involved in their children’s education, kids do

better in and out of school. They get better grades, can have better social

skills, and improved behavior. They are more likely to stay in school and

continue on to post-secondary education. How can you be involved? Read

to your children. Talk to their teachers about progress and challenges. Attend school events.

VOLUNTEER! Just a few hours a year can make a difference. Call your child’s school and ask

how you can help.

A BIG THANK YOU TO FLORENCE SAFEWAY!

Florence Community PTA announces that they earned $969.45 by participat-ing in the 2012 Safeway 10% Goes Back to Schools program! During August and September of 2012, eScrip-registered shoppers purchased specially marked products at Safeway, and in turn Safeway donated 10% of those purchases to our PTA.

eScrip is one of the local PTA’s best fundraisers in Florence. It’s a great program and helps us fund many items for Siuslaw schools that would otherwise go by the wayside in these economic times. Last year Safeway contributed nearly $12,000 through the eScrip program. Thanks to these contributions, Florence PTA has been able to help purchase the following:

Playground equipment

P.E. equipment at the elementary and high schools

Chair dollies

Classroom white boards at the high school

Toobaloos for elementary school music

Jazz music for the high school band

Fresh fruits and veggies for Fitness Fridays at the elementary school

Supplies for the high school Art class

Math curriculum

Science lab supplies

Civil War re-enactment at the middle school

Anti-bullying curriculum at the middle school

Summer reading supplies

Tire pressure gauges for the high school Auto Shop

Summer Science program scholarships

Next time you are at Safeway, thank them for participating in the eScrip program and for caring about education in Florence.

Here’s how eScrip works: Safeway Club Card users can register with eScrip to support a participating organization. Then when they use their Club Card at any of the Safeway family of stores, a percentage of their purchases are donated to that organization. Credit and debit cards can also be registered online. There is no cost to register and participate in this program. If you would like to support the Florence Community PTA, you can register online at www.escrip.com, or download a form from the PTA website at florencepta.org. Turn the form in to any one of the Si-uslaw Schools for the “PTA Box”. You may also mail it to P.O. Box 1140, Florence, OR 97439.
