New Awards

FCBR presents two new awards which will be available for deserving members in 2010.

The Good Neighbor Award

The Board approved a new award to recognize the efforts of members whose contributions have helped to make a difference in the world. “we know of many Realtors, who exemplify the Good Neighbor philosophy and would make excellent honorees”, said, 2009 Awards Chair, Deanna Beckwith. The award will mark a standard of excellence for those Realtors whose give back to others and will be recognized as a very Good Neighbor. NAR and GAR also recognize The Good Neighbor Award. The local recipient could also apply for state and/or national recognition and qualify for grants to assist their cause. Deadline to submit applications: Feb 18.

The Million Dollar Award

Receive recognition for 1 million in total sales volume for QY2009! The Board of Directors also approved the new award to recognize members sales production who meet the 1 million mark for qualifying sales in 2009. Recipients will use a similar form to the Circle of Achievement form, submit a $20 application fee and be recognized at the 2010 Awards Luncheon on March 23, 2010. The Circle of Achievement remains at 2 million like last year – nothing has changed with regard to the guidelines and process for applying. Deadline to submit forms: Jan 22 at 4pm. Member Announcements

The Peachtree City office of Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty held its 1st Annual Bash for Cash drawing on December 17, 2009.

Business cards were collected from agents who attended participating open houses over the past 6 weeks – the more houses they attended, the more chances they had to win.

Owner and President of Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty, Steve Bullard, was on hand to draw the winning cards. Dale Cook from Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty and Cecelia Hayes from the Home Source. Each won $250. Davette Harris from Pilkenton-Murray, LLC won the grand prize of $500.

Requests for Thoughts and Prayers Shawn MacDonald’s (FCBR’s Bookkeeper) two nephews, Cody and Jeffery, were in a serious auto accident on

December 21st. Both are in critical condition and anticipating more surgeries for extensive injuries. Cody is in the

ICU at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI and Jeffery is in Spectrum Heart Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Jeffery is also Katie Ellsworth’s brother (Katie is a part-time assistant at FCBR). Please keep the boys and their families in your

thoughts and prayers during their lengthy recoveries.

Chandra Smith’s (Prudential Georgia Realty, Fayetteville) daughter, Candice, was hit by a transfer truck on

December 22nd. She is in Grady ICU with complications from head injuries. Please keep Candice and her family in

your thoughts and prayers. An account has been set up at Suntrust in Candice’s name. Anyone you know who may want to help the family,

please pass the account number along to them. Account #: 1000107334517 Account Name: Candice Smith c/o Liz Taylor.

Many of you have been asking about Chandra's daughter. The following is an update from Chandra

“Wanted to give everyone a quick update on Candice. I have tried to post something on FB also (not sure if I did that correctly). Candice was transferred to ICU at Shepherd Center located at 2020 Peachtree Rd NW this afternoon. I have gotten access to a computer. Visitation is 10-noon, 2-4pm, 7:30-9 pm daily.

Candice is still unconscious, on vent, has blood infection, low blood count and on antibiotics and anti-seizure meds. Brain pressure is ok, brain port was taken out on Sunday and temp has come down. Pray she will continue to improve. We are looking forward to seeing those beautiful blue eyes and sweet smile again.

My family wanted to thank you all for your prayers, lots of prayers, words of encouragements, food, money and everything else you all have done for us. I can truly say I have NEVER worked with such a wonderful group of people. This is going to be a long journey and ask that you all continue to pray for Candice.”

Message from Candice's friend Josh....

Candice is currently at Shepherd Spinal Center in Atlanta. I went up today and got there as they were putting her in her wheelchair. Even if she is not awake, they like to have her up so that her muscles can get used to moving again. Her mom told us that she has had her eyes open somewhat, and they have been trying to get them to focus. Today Chandra was "dancing" with Candice to Taylor Swift (a little Taylor Swift always makes me feel better, too). She has been running a temperature off and on and they will soon do the tracheotomy. Chandra also said she really enjoys having the butterflies to hang on the wall, so again if anyone wants to make one please do! Just fold a piece of paper in half, draw the butterfly, then cut it. Again, thanks so much for all the support and prayers! Miracles are continuing to happen. Josh Parker

Services were held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan on January 7th.

mother, Virginia Gore, passed away last week following surgery.

Please keep Ed Rush, husband of Shirley Rush (Re/Max Around Atlanta Results, PTC), in your thoughts and

prayers as he recuperates at home following surgery for colon cancer. The Drs feel confident that they have removed all of the cancer and his recovery should be complete.

Why We Inspect the Mechanicals

When we talk about "the mechanicals" in a home, what does that actually mean and why are they so important? Simply put, the mechanicals are all the components of a house that have moving parts: the heating, cooling, ventilation, and plumbing systems. The mechanicals are important, because ultimately these are the things that are responsible for the health, hygiene and comfort of you and your family. To ensure your mechanical systems are doing their job, be aware of the following: Heating:

Clean and in good mechanical condition No strange noises and signs of wear and tear

Cooling:

All equipment is in good physical condition Exterior units are level and free of debris in the fins and housing

Ventilation:

All filters are clean All ducts and registers are free of obstruction All exterior discharge vents are protected weatherproof units

Plumbing:

No damaged fixtures or fittings No damaged or defective water heaters No lead or galvanized piping

A thorough evaluation of the mechanicals should be part of every professional home inspection. An evaluation of these systems from a trusted third party advisor can help give you an accurate picture of their condition.

2010 Education Program

GREC Education Requirements Recap Every licensee is currently required to obtain 6 hours CE per year of licensure, which equates to 24 hours CE for a 4-year renewal period. Those licensees in their first year of licensure must take a 25-hour Post-license course and this course also serves as the 6 hours of CE needed for that first year, leaving 18 more hours of CE before renewal.

GAR Scholarship Application Process Change The GAR Scholarship application process has gone green. Starting with applications for 3rd quarter (starts 7/1/09) they will no longer be accepting paper applications.

All applications will need to be processed online.
