Flame Test Lab

Purpose

Investigate the colors of flame produced by solutions of metal salts. Determine the identity of some unknown salt samples.

Pre-Lab

1. What is a flame test?2. Demo: Metal salts will be burned in

a flame. Draw and describe your observations.

Procedure

1. Light the Bunsen burner. 2. Spray Unknown #1 into the flame. You can spray a few times until you get an intense color. Record the color in your observations.3. Repeat step 2 for the other unknown

samples.

4. Clean your lab station area.
