Camp Director: Andy Talley 815-479-5779 [email protected] This camp is held at two Conservaon District areas listed below in the schedule. Our goal is to provide young children with an opportunity to learn fish idenficaon, fishing skills, ethics, and safe fishing pracces. Fishing is not only a fun recreaonal acvity; it is also a quiet, low impact way to explore our lakes and rivers. Fishing campers discover their connecons with the natural world in a program devoted to having fun in the outdoors in a non-compeve, supporve environment. Bait and fishing poles will be provided, but campers may bring their own properly-working equipment. Rush Creek / Monday and Tuesday Drop off and pick up will be at the shelter across from the pond at Rush Creek. A brief camp orientaon is given and introductory games played before we head down to the water to learn fishing skills. On these two days, campers learn basic fishing skills, safety, baing, and casng techniques. We will explore the creek and discuss the intricacies of dealing with moving water while fishing. Other acvies on these days will include neng for macro invertebrates. Brookdale / Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Drop off and pick up will be at the shelter by the Paulsen Road entrance for Brookdale. Each day the campers will learn about the “fish of the day,” learn more fishing skills, and do some fishing. Wednesday acvies will include how to organize your tackle box, knot tying and Texas rigging. Thursday will include learning about lake structure, rigging a slip bobber, and painng your own lure. Friday we will learn about other types of rods, including a fly rod demonstraon. This will be followed by our camp closing, and awarding of camp cerficates .
