As academic advisors, we aim to:
•Provide a supportive environment for your transition to college
•Ensure that you are making well-informed decisions about your academics
•Facilitate exploration of the wealth of opportunities available at Notre Dame
•Encourage engaged learning, both in and out of the classroom
• Connect you to key campus resources
The Advising Relationship
As students, you should plan to:
•Be forthcoming with questions, curiosities, and concerns
•Take ownership of your educational experience
•Adhere to important dates and deadlines
•Keep in contact with your advisor throughout your first year
Your First Year

Degree Components
The Core Curriculum exposes all students to diverse ways of knowing across disciplines
College Requirements provide a strong academic foundation

Fall Schedule Guidelines
•16-19 credit hours
•Five academic courses:– University Seminar (USEM) or Writing & Rhetoric
– College Requirements

– Major Requirements

•FYS 10101: Moreau First Year Experience
Moreau First Year Experience
•Two-semester course sequence that is required of all First-Year students
•Small class sizes (fewer than 20 students) with an emphasis on discussion
•Built around the following themes:– Orientation to University life– Health and wellbeing– Community standards– Cultural competence– Academic success– Spiritual life– Discernment

Mendoza College Requirements
•Sequence 1
– Microeconomics, Statistics, and Calculus
– AP credit can satisfy any or all of these
– If taken on campus, Sequence 1 courses can count for Liberal Arts requirements of the University Core
•Sequence 2– Options include:
ACCT 20100, MKTG 20100, MGTO 20100, FIN 20150, BALW 20150, ITAO 20200, ITAO 20600
– Expected to complete three in your first year

Selecting Your Courses
•Planning Worksheet
•Placing out of requirements, prerequisites, and other considerations
•If interested in a second major you will need to let us know, since this could impact course placement (e.g. Calc A v. Calc I; Statistics)
Preparing for Your Appointment
• Familiarize yourself with online resources
•Check Concise Student Schedule to view courses for which you have been pre-registered (if any)
•Create a list of courses you are interested in taking based on First Year requirements
• Build a tentative schedule making sure that there are no time conflicts
•Bring questions—if there is anything that you don’t understand about your exam credit, placement, requirements, etc. please ask!
Looking Ahead
•June:– Make sure all scores and transcripts have been sent
– Review “Just Around the Bend” in Sakai
– Complete all To-Dos from First Year@ND newsletters
– Research course options
• July:– Attend Zoom meeting with your advisor to register for
your fall classes (look out for email with instructions)
