WelcomeWe are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins.We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God

from the wedding of Megan Clark and Wyatt Mobley.

The Advent Wreath CelebrationEach Sunday during the Advent season we light a candle in our morning services and read the corresponding Scripture to focus our attention on Jesus and glorify him. We use three purple candles representing Hope, Love and Peace, and a pink candle representing the Joy that is ours because of Christ’s coming into the world and into our hearts and lives. The white candle in the center of the wreath is lit on Christmas Eve and represents the birth of Jesus. This tradition, dating back to A.D. 600, reminds us that the center of the Church and the center of our Christmas celebration is Christ Jesus.

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An Elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available outside St. Andrew’s Hall. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms before the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 109) located in the wing behind the sanctuary and to the left, and the Geneva Room is designated as a Cry Room for parents with fussy children, equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Additional seating for morning and evening worship services is available each week in St. Andrew’s Hall.

The Morning Services

The Meditation—I Wonder as I Wander ...................................................Dan Forrest

Theme: God Is Delivering Us

The Prelude—O Come, O Come, Emmanuel ..........................arr. Garth Edmundson

*Welcome and Announcements........................................................ Dr. Mike Phillips

†The Call to Worship ..............................................................................from Psalm 34I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

My soul makes its boast in the Lord; Let the humble hear and be glad;

O Magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

O taste and see that the Lord is good;

Happy are those who take refuge in him.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

I wonder as I wander out under the sky, How Jesus the Savior did come for to dieFor poor ornery people like you and like I;I wonder as I wander out under the sky.

When Mary birthed Jesus, ‘twas in a cow’s stall,With wise men and farmers and shepherds and all;But high from God’s heaven a star’s light did fall,And the promise of ages it then did recall.

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing,A star in the sky or a bird on the wing,Or all of God’s angels in heaven for to sing,He surely could have it, ‘cause he was the King!

The Corporate Confession of Sin

Lord Jesus, we have sinned times without number, and been guilty of pride and unbelief, and of neglect to seek you in our daily lives. Our sins and shortcomings present us with a list of accusations, but we thank you that they will not stand against us, for all have been laid on Christ. Forgive the sins that we remember, and the sins we have forgotten. Forgive our many failures in the face of temptation, and those times when we have been stubborn in the face of correction. Forgive the times we have been proud of our own achievements and those when we have failed to boast in your works. Forgive the harsh judgments we have made of others, and the leniency we have shown ourselves. Forgive the lies we have told to others, and the truths we have avoided. Forgive us the pain we have caused others and the indulgence we have shown ourselves. Deliver us from every evil habit, every interest of former sins, everything that dims the brightness of your grace in us, everything that prevents us from taking delight in you. Amen.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace ...............................................Psalm 130:3-4, 7-8If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

Call to Worship .................................................................................. Mr. Luke Niday

The Shorter Catechism, Question 12:

Q. What did God’s providence specifically do for man whom he created?

A. After the creation, God made a covenant with man to give him life, if he perfectly obeyed; God told him not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil or he would die.

Irish Christmas Carol

InstrumentalGood people all this Christmastime,Consider well and bear in mind, What our good God for us has done,In sending his beloved Son. With Mary, holy, we should pray,To God with love this Christmas Day;In Bethlehem upon that morn,There was a blest Messiah born.

The night before that happy tide, The noble Virgin and her guide, Were long time seeking up and down, To find a lodging in the town. But mark how all things came to pass:From ev’ry door repelled, alas! As long foretold, their refuge all, Was but a humble ox’s stall.

Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep,Their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep, To whom God’s angels did appear,Which put the shepherds in great fear.“Prepare and go,” the angels said,“To Bethlehem, be not afraid; For there you’ll find, this happy morn, A princely babe, sweet Jesus born.”
