Trend insighttrend spotting is the lifeblood of retail. Get it right and customers will be forming queues.

to make it easier for you to tap into the one that will set cash tills ringing this summer, autumn and Christmas, we’ve teamed up with some of our favourite design, lifestyle and fashion journalists to bring you insight on what’s hot and what will be selling in seasons ahead.

Please visit www.pulse-london.com for the full trends editorial.

Katie Law Design News Writer, London Evening Standard

Katie Law writes about design and interiors, including the influential Designspy column, for both the Homes & Property and Features sections of the London evening standard.

Illustrations and DrawingsUsing vintage illustrations, antique botanical drawings and traditional typefaces on surfaces – from ceramics, cushions and bed linen to laminate flooring – is a trend that’s increasingly popular. What’s lovely about this look is that it’s nostalgic yet avoids being sentimental thanks to its strong graphics. surprisingly versatile, it works as well with pastel pinks and blues as it does with a more industrial colour palette.

Modern scandiFor the purist who prefers unfettered simplicity, Modern scandi continues to evolve. With its origins in the iconic Danish designs of the mid-to-late 20th century, Modern scandi incorporates the cleanest lines, the palest woods and the coolest colours. Furniture combines blond woods with white laminate surfaces; textiles come in organic cottons or washed linens – definitely nothing shiny – and palettes come in muted pastels with strong monochrome punches. Pattern is minimal, because ultimately Modern scandi is about clutter-free living.

Fifty shades of Grey While Fifty shades of Grey may have had its day in the world of books, it hasn’t in the world of interiors: grey is the new neutral – in any shade you like. Cubic, H25

David Nicholls Design Editor: Telegraph Magazine

As the telegraph Magazine’s design editor and menswear columnist, David writes about the best design for the home and the latest developments in men’s fashion.

spaceover the last twenty years, newly built homes have shrunk by about 10%. More than ever space is at a premium… there is an increasing need for designs that are smaller, more flexible, multi-functional or made in a way that makes them easy to dismantle and reassemble.

new nordicWe’ve looked to the north for style inspiration since the 1940s, but it’s having something of a revival… this renewed enthusiasm for the designs of sweden, Denmark, Finland and norway will whet the appetite for pieces that are functional and modern, made from natural materials and textiles decorated with fresh folkish patterns.

BlueUntil recently, this colour was pretty much banished from the world of interior design. But this has changed. now blue – in all its gorgeous shades – is simply the colour. Go navy with white for a classic nautical look, turquoise to add a bit of tropical heat, mineral blue for something cool and modern

Charlotte Abrahams Freelance Writer

over the past two decades, Charlotte has written regular features, columns and profiles for the national press, including Guardian Weekend Magazine, the observer Magazine, observer Woman, the saturday telegraph Magazine, elle Decoration, Living etc, Crafts, and more.

the new Craftsmenthe exciting onward march of technology is being matched by the equally exciting emergence of a new breed of artisan… using their finely honed skills to create beautifully made, utterly contemporary products which bear the mark of their maker. Look for honest, natural materials formed into simple, functional pieces for everyday use.

Artistic InfluencesDesigners have been busy embracing their inner artist for the new season and illustration is proving a strong trend. the seemingly ugly scenes of everyday urban life are a popular source of inspiration and hand drawn interpretations of these cityscapes can be seen popping up on both home wares and stationery. this gritty, graphic look is complemented by a rising tide of products adorned with exuberant, brush-stroked splodges of vivid colour; the brighter and more clashing the better.

the new Whitethe all-white interior is back but the latest incarnation of this classic look is a far cry from the cold, flat version we experienced in the 1990s. the new white is a celebration of textures – rough, embossed, shiny smooth – designed to be layered together to create a look that is utterly tranquil but filled with visual interest. sarah Grove, CM4
