First Grade
Dear First Grade Parents,
Welcome! We are already excited about next year, and we cannot wait to teach your
child. In preparation for first grade, we have organized summer work for your student to
complete this summer. This work is important to ensure a smooth transition into first
grade, and to help your child have a confident start to the school year.
We encourage your child to read several times a week, and to choose from a variety of
books. Your child will be responsible for completing the “My First Grade Book Report”
for two books. We have attached the book report forms, and the list of optional books.
Students will continue to use Math 2.0. The standards they will practice are review, and
will reinforce skills that were mastered in Kindergarten. We have also assigned IXL Math
as practice for upcoming first grade math standards. To reinforce grammar standards,
we have assigned IXL Grammar. Students will practice identifying nouns and verbs.
We are excited to return to school with stories from our many camping trips and hiking
adventures. We truly hope you have a relaxing summer, and enjoy the quality time with
family and friends.
Have a lovely summer,
Your First Grade Teachers
