Women’s Ministries Woman of the Year

Dr. Sarah Watson Harper

At the Women’s Ministries Fall Dinner in August, Sarah Harper was recognized as the 2013-2014 Woman of the Year and presented with a beautiful pottery bowl. Sarah and Carey came to Rock Hill in the 1990’s and immediately became involved in the life of First ARP. Christian Education and Special Needs ministries have been, and still are, two of her passions. Sarah uses her many gifts and talents to serve the Lord in a variety of ways, volunteering in the kitchen for receptions and wedding day brunches, serving in the nursery, and hosting Prayer Team gatherings in her home. She has served as Sunday School Superintendent; Deacon and Chairman of the Board of Deacons; co-chair of the Forward in Faith campaign; and for many years, taught Women’s Ministries Bible studies. Currently, Sarah serves on our Vision Team and is helping to lead the Retire the Debt campaign. The joy of the Lord is certainly evident in her as she loves and leads by example in her family, her church and community.

Youth Advisory Team Meeting: Thursday, October 2nd @ 5:00-5:45 pm.

The High School Fall Retreat was September 19-21 at Bonclarken Conference Center. Our students were led in worship by the teaching of Matt Kuiken, Senior Pastor at First ARP Gastonia, and in music by the First ARP Gastonia Worship Band. We studied the book of Daniel over the course of the retreat & focused on different principles for living as Christians in the world. Students enjoyed the basketball and volleyball tournament (Champions!!!), the zip line, dodgeball and many other fun activities. It was a great weekend for the following students to strengthen relationships between themselves and the Lord: Corbin Goodwin, Juliet Leach, Sarah Velkovich, Casey Craven, Jack Gettys, Elliott Mackey and Roddey Smith.

Page 3: FIRST CHURCH LIFEstorage.cloversites.com/firstarpchurchrockhill/documents/October 2014.pdfthe city of Fort Mill. Lots of people gather to eat from the local food trucks, kids play

Here are our prayer requests for October:

1. Praise the Lord! We celebrated our 1 year anniversary of meeting for worship on September14th! 2. Pray for the outreach opportunities we have this quarter — First Fridays in Fort Mill - a festival type gathering sponsored by

the city of Fort Mill. Lots of people gather to eat from the local food trucks, kids play in the park, and lots of people hang out. It's a great place to meet new people!

Bingo Night—A mom in our church helped us to become a sponsor at the elementary school's bingo night. We'll hand out cotton candy and get to know the parents and families.

Halloween - our family will light up our grill and serve apple cider and hot dogs to all the children & parents in our neighborhood.

3. Three of us men are currently training to counsel men who come to our local Crisis Pregnancy Center. Many times, a husband/boyfriend will sit in the waiting room while the lady receives counsel or gets an ultrasound. We want to help the men who come to the center. 4. Pray for the Lord to raise up a new provisional session member from one of our supporting churches. 5. Emily and I give the Lord thanks for all of the prayers He answered for our daughter Katelyn and her relocation to South Korea. She has made friends, found a very good church, and adjusted to her teaching job in Changwon. 6. We're thankful for the visitors who have worshipped with us the past few Sundays. 7. We're thankful for the Lord raising up Mike Jones, our three supporting churches and a presbytery that is supportive of planting new churches in the U.S.

Thank you for praying —— David Stover

Retire the Debt Thank you for continuing to give sacrificially as we work to retire our remaining debt

by the end of the year. Please place your check (marked “Retire the Debt” in the

memo line) in the red envelope and drop in the offering plate or at the church office.

THANK YOU!
