The mall’s public relations manager Lee Lilian said the fire which broke out at 9am at Food Republic located in the new wing of the mall, was put out swiftly by the mall’s sprinkler system and security staff with no casualties or injuries reported. “We are not sure what was the cause of the fire but rest assured the mall’s operation is ongoing as per usual,” she said to The Rakyat Post, declining to speculate further on the cause. Fire at One Utama shopping mall

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11:

A small kitchen fire in a food court at the One Utama shopping mall in Bandar

Utama led to a massive morning traffic crawl along the Damansara-Puchong

Expressway (LDP) today.

“No adjacent shops caught fire and the huge plume of smoke was because

we had to open the windows to let out the smoke,” she said, denying that

there was an explosion in the mall as tweeted by many.

Damansara Fire and Rescue Department chief Ramli Harun confirmed the

incident and said investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of

the incident.

“We received a call at about 9.34am and by the time we arrived, the fire had

been put out,” he said.

The mall currently is awaiting a full report from the department to determine

the cause of the fire.
