ST7-HV

INTRODUCTION TO THE ST7-HV SYSTEM The ST7-HV system is a programmable PLC suitable for safety and security installations with a high technological and economic content to ensure safety of people and protection of assets within commercial and industrial environments. This system is ideal for process plants, refineries, energy production factories, governmental and public buildings, military, naval installations and many more. The ST7-HV system has state of the art technology that covers fire & gas detection as well as CCTV and security systems. The ST7-HV system has been designed to meet a variety of functions, reliability and availability requirements which is ideal for companies that operate in the field of energy production and transformation. The ST7-HV has excellent resistance to electromagnetic disturbances and is capable of continuous operation in difficult environmental conditions. Its capacity is set to the compliance with the requirements of fault tolerance set by the International Standards IEC 61508. Due to its compliance, it has obtained the level SIL3 (Safety Integrity Level 3) certified by a third party agency. The ST7-HV system is certified to perform many protection functions. It is in compliance with the applicable regulations listed in the standards for the construction products (CPD & CPR) and in UL laboratories to meet the corresponding US standards. Externally, the panel ST7-HV is similar to a safety PLC; it is composed by electronic cards mechanically compatible, which are inserted in 19” racks. The panel ST7-HV can have from 1 to 10 racks, each rack has 13 card slots. About 20 different cards can be used, each dedicated to different functions such as firefighting, gas detection, intruder alarm, technologic control and communication with other systems and/or panels. The ST7-HV panel has a dedicated rack for the operator’s interface and it is constituted by a big alphanumeric display, by a keyboard and led indications to show the system status. Each panel ST7-HV has its own modular feeder and battery charger which allows the panel to work even without an external power supply. The ST7-HV system can communicate with other panels of the same type and with supervisory and SCADA systems. This can be done using both proprietary and standard protocols, such as Ethernet TCP/IP and Modbus. Special features • Hot backup redundant CPU’s • Hot swap of all cards, including CPU’s, with automatic reconfiguration • Redundant and looped communication bus between cards and CPU’s • Periodical automatic testing of card inputs and outputs • Self-diagnostics and signaling of card and CPU fault • Automatic safety disabling of malfunctioning cards

APPLICATIONS OF THE ST7-HV SYSTEM The ST7-HV system is commonly used for: • Automatic fire extinguishing control systems and in the case of complex firefighting installation sectioning.

This is in conformity with the Construction Products Directive (CPD); • Integrated systems, including fire, intruder/burglar alarm, CCTV and technologic control functions; • Safety & Security systems, where panels operate as master or slave units. Panels communicate through

networks (of a fiber optic and fault tolerant type too) and are connected to DCS or SCADA through Modbus protocol Ethernet and OPC Server;

• Fire protection with special logics that are in accordance with the recommendations of the NFPA standard; • Gas detection and measurement systems. It is ATEX-certifiable and capable of interfacing with 4 & 20 mA

output toxic or explosive gas detectors. All of these functions can coexist or be configured to meet specific customer requirements.

SIL systems The ST7-HV panel can be used to produce systems certifiable to SIL2 and SIL3. This is with the requirements of the applicable regulations that refer to the IEC 61508 and deriving standards. In these applications, the ST7-HV plays the role of logic solver so it represents the core of the system and it can obtain the SIL2 or SIL3 level depending on the cards selected to be used with it. Clearly, to reach the expected safety level, the field devices (inputs and outputs) must also be certified accordingly, in addition to the panel.

ST7-HV

According to the standards, the ST7-HV panel (or system), can be considered a PES (Programmable Electronic Safety-related system) and can be configured to perform the following safety functions: • Monitor digital inputs from field devices (conventional detectors, pressure switches, release pushbuttons,

selector switches, etc.) • Monitor analogue 4-20mA inputs from field devices (explosive gas, toxic gas, oxygen and heat detectors,

etc.) • Elaboration of logics as a function of input status (including fire extinguishing control to EN12094-1) • Control actuators (solenoids, relays, etc.). In the past, certified safety functions were limited only to processed applications and gas detection due to the small availability of sensor and actuators on the market that were SIL certified; now addressable flame detectors with this certification are highly available and automatic fire extinguishing command devices such as solenoids for cylinders, deluge valves and fire monitors.

PARTICULAR NOTES FOR SAFETY APPLICATIONS There will always be two CPU’s. A SIL-certified ST7-HV panel can contain different cards and perform different functions from those that must be certified to SIL. For whole system configuration, refer to ST7-HV panel Safety Manual. Should you have any doubts, please contact Silver-Tec technical service. SIL 2 Configuration (SINGLE/MONO) SIL 3 Configuration (REDUNDANT/DUPLEX) The I/O cards do not need to be duplicated. The I/O cards not relating to SIL2-certified safety functions do not need to be duplicated.

In case of automatic fire extinguishing control, sensors must be installed on two different detection lines. The I/O cards concerning SIL3-certified safety functions must be duplicated in different racks. Consequently, also the racks are duplicated. The redundant I/O cards must be evenly spread in the redundant racks.

ST7-HV

Communication network ST7-HV is suitable for use in systems where several panels fully interact on a network. They must entirely maintain their autonomy in respective area control.

Panels can communicate with supervisory systems on an Ethernet LAN, and with external elements (e.g. DCS, PLC, SCADA systems) via MODBUS RTU.

Communication on a network enables the integration of different-vector systems, also including fault-tolerant loop architectures.
