Goal of Product

Central Library

The mission of the Central Library is to facilitate creation of new knowledge through acquisition, organization of knowledge resources and

providing for value added services.

Key Questions

?

• Can they figure out if the website is teaching them how to access, so that they learn by themselves?

• To get more information about central library, their personal account and its resources.

• Are they able to search and locate a particular book or browse through media/journal/e-book.

User googles “issue books from IITB Library” opens the first links and lands up at some unknown website. “iitblibrary.wordpress.com”

Users find it difficult to understand “OPAC” search. They keep looking for “book” search and choose book search(OPAC) only after they pause a little on “opac search”

Novice users think that they’ll find a book inside

Library Services > Book Bank

Interface is very confusing and users don’t understand “Match” , “Media”

Information given in front of books seems “confusing” and users tend to

click the book icon which has no action assigned.

Users find it difficult to find the difference between “like” and “equal to “, in the complex menu

Users find it difficult to find the difference between “and” and “or“, in the complex menu

When the user searches for the same author in normal search, he gets the results.When he tries the same in complex search he doesnt.

Advance search is very much similar to complex search that appears below the normal search.

users don’t get what the numbers in the pop up window are, as to what theymean book no. or stack no. etc…

When the user clicked the ribbon of the website by mistake it lead him to IIT Bombay website.

When the user types , “7 secrets…” , 7 is not searched but only secrets,…etc are.So, he again types- S<E<V<E<N.

Quick Links are again very confusing. User thought hovering will some help information.

After entering details, and logging in, page is redirected to Central Library’s home page. And it’s not clear whether user is logged in or not.
