Expert Service Providers

With one of the largest groups of pipeline and pressure equipment experts in the world, DNV combines practical engineering expertise with fundamental scientific approaches to solve engineering problems where other firms fall short. Our experts utilize proven, comprehensive strategies to work with you toward a unique Facilities Integrity Management (FIM) Program.

Beyond Assessments

DNV goes beyond regulatory and industry assessments and utilizes vast pipeline and process knowledge to help you safely and responsibly obtain maximum value from your facilities, equipment and people. Our proficient staff of engineers provide assessments such as routine API 510, 570, 579 and 653 methods; however, in addition to the basic assessment, you receive expert guidance and support to take your existing systems to the next level and incorporate elements of continuous improvement.

Strategies and Approaches

The strategy for developing and implementing a Facilities Integrity Management Program is unique for each owner/operator. The status of such a program typically depends on corporate philosophy, operating experience, asset management guidelines and regulatory requirements. As a result, no single approach best suits all plants and facilities; therefore, DNV tailors your program to your facility’s specific needs and concerns. DNV provides a framework for developing a comprehensive FIM program using a balanced approach with four components:

• Assessment • Monitoring • Mitigation • Life Extension

DNV provides you with expert guidance and industry best practices for comprehensive facilities integrity management.

The Facilities Integrity Management Cycle

Total asset integrity will provide you with a complete solution for the implementation and integration of the latest technical advances in the industry. A third party assessment of your FIM system ensures that your system is current and accounts for all new equipment. This allows you to continuously improve and enhance each part of the system and take a fresh look at the information and elements contained within it. Our highly experienced staff can assist you with the right solution for your plant integrity management issues, including all current and advanced inspection techniques, failure analysis, equipment life assessments and data management options.

Our experts utilize fitness-for-service assessments, according to API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, to focus on particular failure modes, such as local wall loss, brittle fracture, fatigue cracking, creep rupture or hydrogen attack. The likely failure modes and their potential consequences are then addressed in the a risk assessment model. With experts in underground piping, cathodic protection, and internal/external corrosion, our API 570 inspections account for more than the recommended practice requires.

In addition, our consultants conduct operational assessments to evaluate the organizational structure and resources devoted to your facilities integrity management program.

Monitoring

DNV assists plant operators in developing inspection management and integrity monitoring programs using nondestructive examination (NDE) and other monitoring methods. Once the information has been gathered, it is used to help determine the inspection interval, based on experience or predicted remaining life. Monitoring corrosion rates, operating parameters, cathodic protection effectiveness and environmental conditions also provide information for the technical assessment.

Mitigation

DNV assists operators in the design, development and implementation of mitigation systems, which are used to determine the action required to address integrity concerns. These actions include altering operating parameters and conditions, repairing or replacing components, changing materials, implementing coatings and corrosion protection, adding corrosion inhibitors, and altering the operating environment.

Life Extension

DNV also identifies future actions and schedules for maintaining long-term integrity. Our consultants look at your facility to determine if the operational conditions could be changed (for example, the volume to process, loads that equipment may be exposed to, etc.) or if the lifetime of the facility can be extended. We employ site inspection and measurement, laboratory testing and technical calculations to provide you with a clear picture and help you explore various options.

Assessment

During the assessment process, engineers provide independent, evaluations of relevant technical information and data to assess the integrity of the facility, whether risk-based or deterministic.
