The PNE

The PNE, a non-profit registered charity, is owned by the City of Vancouver and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year!! In the last 100 years the PNE has been the

location for countless Movie , TV, and Commercial productions. The diversity of the Hastings Park site offers something for everyone – from a wide variety of facilities, studio

space, unique building settings, film & commercial locations, to numerous and easily accessible parking lots. Our location within the city of Vancouver is the only location with

an array of adaptable buildings, scenic settings, green space, a 9-acre amusement park and ample on-site parking.

Pacific Coliseum The Pacific Coliseum has been a Vancouver attraction for over 40 years and is the largest building within the Hastings Park complex and provides a magnificent setting for

large arena shots, concert scenes, boxing, hockey, etc. Some notable productions: Best in Show, I Spy, Josie & The Pussycats, Saving Silverman, & The Miracle.

Since being chosen as an Official Olympic venue for Short Track Speed Skating and Figure Skating, the Coliseum has under gone some major changes, including: 15,730

new permanent seats, a new ice plant, new cat walks and ‘Field of Play’ lighting, 4 new dehumidifiers, a new elevator on the west side and all of the washrooms have been

renovated with water conservation appliances.

The Forum

A flexible multi-purpose facility of almost 45,000 square feet, the Forum building is very popular as studio space due to its 60 foot ceiling, clear span and ample parking

adjacent. The forum’s most recent renovations include a new roof and heating system installed in 2009.

It can be utilized in its entirety or separated into two sections of approximately 22,000 square feet by sliding wall dividers, has multiple dressing rooms to double as storage

spaces, break rooms, set dec lock ups, extras holding and/or construction offices, making it ideal for the demands of the motion picture industry.

The Agrodome

The Agrodome features an ice surface for minor hockey and figure skating events from September to March. For the remainder of the year, the Agrodome plays host to a

variety of events including professional tennis, boxing, wrestling, special events and film shoots. An oval floor with a polished concrete surface is surrounded by more than

3,000 permanent seats.

Rollerland

Ideally suited for smaller film shoots and builds requiring average ceiling clearance, this facility is approximately 19,800 square feet with 20ft ceilings. Rollerland received

additional lighting and a brand new roof in 2009!

Some productions who have called Rollerland “Home” over the years include Dead Zone, I Spy, Little Man, Pathfinder, So Weird, Smallville, Wrinkle in Time and many, many

commercials.

The Temporary Stadium at Empire Field

The Pacific National Exhibition is excited to be in the process of building a temporary stadium at the site of the old Empire Bowl. The PNE will be home to the BC Lions for their

2010-2011 CFL season and the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2011. The 27,500-seat temporary stadium is located on the site of old Empire Stadium, just east of Playland Amusement

Park offers a vast amount of space for sporting events, outdoor concerts and filming.

The new stadium has ample parking close by and is easily accessible from

any direction.

PNE Grounds

The PNE's vast array of landscapes, parks, gardens and backdrop of mountains as well as our unique buildings and structures on site lend well to Vancouver's reputation as

being able to double as any city on earth for filming and commercial shoots.

The site includes the Italian Gardens with a Bocce court and playground, a traditional Japanese garden (Momiji Gardens), a 10-acre sanctuary as well as a very popular

skateboard park. Various productions that have filmed in these areas include Elektra, Kyle XY, Like Mike II, Romeo, Scooby Doo II, The L Word and many commercials.

Playland Amusement Park

Located on the eastern side of Hastings Park, Playland stretches across nine acres and features 34 permanent rides including 3 rollercoasters, a beautiful merry-go-round and

a games midway that's home to over 17 games! Playland is a very popular location for both motion and still picture productions. Past shoots include: Final Destination III,

Riding the Bullet, Romeo, Smallville, The Five People you Meet in Heaven, The L Word, music videos and commercials.

Filming Rental Rates (non event days):

Daily Rate $2,500

Please note:

• This rate is strictly a rental fee for access to the grounds and does not include use of any rides, games, or staff. The above rate is based on 12 hour film days, daytime filming.

• Before filming, productions must fill out the ‘Filming in Playland’ Application, forms can be requested through [email protected]

• Nighttime/overnight filming is subject to overtime rates and neighborhood impact.

• Filming permitted during non-operating hours only.(April-October, hours vary-visit pne.ca for more information)

• The rates for the use of various rides depend on the ride (i.e.the Coaster requires more staff and prep versus one of the children’s rides). Below is an estimate only:

• Daily Full Park Operation: $12,000

• Daily 1-3 rides, localized area: $5,000

• Daily 1 ride or location: $3,500


Playland Wrap Parties

Excitement and wonder await you and your cast on Playland’s rides! From the hair-raising Crazy Beach Party to the many twists and turns of the famous Wooden

Roller Coaster, Playland has a variety of screaming options to make your wrap up party the most thrilling yet.

Playland can accommodate groups from 50 –10,000 people, and is the perfect backdrop for your wrap party. Customize your own event, before or after regular

hours of operation to include all the rides & attractions or select a specific area within Playland. For excitement include the Drop Zone and Revelation or something

different with Pacific Adventure Golf and the climbing wall.

The PNE catering team will fire up the BBQ and provide the perfect menu to suit your taste and budget. From a burger menu to a steak and lobster dinner, we can

provide a tasty meal for your group.


Additional Information • Insurance – all rentals will obtain and maintain comprehensive general liability insurance in an amount not less than $5,000,000 Canadian, naming both the Pacific

National Exhibition and the City of Vancouver as additional insureds on the same policy.

Parking Rentals

The PNE has a variety of parking lots available during your shoot or for your production team and catering. Due to the difference in clean up and security, rates differ for strictly

parking and for a film shoot in a parking lot:

� To hold a date, please contact the PNE, Sales Coordinator at 604.251.7787, holds are kept for 2 months and then released if no other communication is recieved

� To secure a date, a non-refundable deposit will be required.

� Dates in March, April and May in the Pacific Coliseum are subject to WHL playoff dates.

� Dates from mid-September to mid-March in the Agrodome are given absolute priority to our Community Ice Rental program.


PNE FILMING GUIDELINES

The diversity of the Hastings Park site offers something for everyone - from a wide variety of facilities, unique building settings, film & commercial locations to numerous and easily accessible parking lots. The PNE's location within the City of Vancouver is the only location with an array of adaptable buildings, scenic settings, green space, a 9-acre amusement park, and ample parking.

It is our mandate to work together towards a most successful production.

Forum Building:

Due to this building’s location within Hastings Park coupled with the nature of our business streams, union regulations and the close proximity to neighbouring residences, there are strict guidelines in place to accommodate all of our relationships, both internally, externally and community focused. Please contact your PNE representative for further information.

• South glass doors are to be completely blacked out while occupying the building.

• Generator use to be discussed prior to move in with your PNE representative.

• If generator(s) are required, they are to be placed on the east side of the building with screened moduloc surrounding the unit(s).

• Lot One on the west side of the building is included as part of your building rental. This parking lot is for your circus, catering and worktrucks. Any overflow

lots required, including crew and extras, to be discussed with your PNE representative.1

• Lot One to be completely fenced and screened prior to circus moving onsite and is to remain up and in good repair for the length of your tenancy.

• There is absolutely no parking allowed at the south doors to the building. This is a loading zone only.2

• On film days there must be a minimum of one PNE parker on duty, payable by the production, to assist in the parking of crew, extras, etc.

• PNE Public Safety attendant (film liaison) to be on set at all times during filming and is chargeable to the production.

1 If production is on location therefore the lot is vacant, the PNE reserves the right to utilize for guests of PNE events (ie: hockey, concerts, etc). This will be discussed in advance with the Location Manager. 2 There are three parking bays (approximately five parking spots) allotted for your VIP’s. Please contact your PNE representative for a map of the parking available.


Rollerland:

Due to this building’s proximity to the Pacific Coliseum, the PNE reserves the right to the handicapped parking stalls on the west side of the building on event days. Production will be notified of event days prior to booking dates.

• Generator use to be discussed prior to move in with your PNE representative.

• On film days there must be a minimum of one PNE parker on duty, payable by the production, to assist in the parking of crew, extras, etc.

• Circus, crew and extras parking to be discussed with PNE representative.

• Circus and work truck parking will be determined before filming begins and will be included in the final contract

• PNE Public Safety attendant (film liaison) to be on set at all times during filming and is chargeable to the production.

Sanctuary:

As this area is ecologically sensitive, we have prepared strict guidelines for productions wishing to film. Please contact your PNE representative at the above email address with any questions. A full site-tour will be required prior to permitting any filming on-site, after which all aspects will be reviewed for consideration.

As a general rule of thumb, filming must be within the parameters of work we would normally do for maintenance. Ie: a boat can be placed in the pond, however there can be no walking on, nor anchoring to, the pond floor.

• The shoreline is strictly off limits due to nesting birds, sensitive vegetation, etc.

• Golf carts ONLY (to be supplied by production) on pathways.

• Cameras must be hand-held or on tripod, lighting must be stand-alone. The bridges and railings are not to be utilized for rigging equipment.

• Camera locations to be on existing pathways ONLY. If alternative area required, please contact your PNE representative to discuss.

• Trees are to remain as-is (ie: tie backs not permitted)

• Work trucks are to be staged on East/West roadway along south end of sanctuary between Playland and Gate 15. Alternatively, on north end of the park,

close to the Kiwanis building.

• Generator placement to be overseen by PNE electrical department due to underground utilities.

• Production to place PA in strategic locations on pathways to temporarily cease foot traffic. Park users to have access at all times, other than intermittently

when rolling.

• PNE Public Safety attendant (film liaison) to remain with production at all times during prep, filming and wrap. PNE staff to be charged back to production.

• Dates and time availability to be discussed with your PNE representative.


Italian Gardens:

• Curfew is 7am – 11pm Monday to Thursday, 7am – midnight Friday and Saturday.

o If filming is expected to go past the existing curfew, please contact the City Film Office to apply for curfew extension. The PNE requires a copy of

this permit prior to filming, and will review and consider for authorization.

o Production to paper the neighbourhood minimum of 2 days prior to filming.

• Painting of existing structures is strictly forbidden.

• Staking is permitted in certain areas only. Please contact your PNE representative to discuss.

• PNE Public Safety attendant to be with production at all times during filming and is to be charged back to production. Skate Park:

• Curfew is 7am – 11pm Monday to Thursday, 7am – midnight Friday and Saturday.

o If filming is expected to go past the existing curfew, please contact the City Film Office to apply for curfew extension. The PNE requires a copy of

this permit prior to filming, and will review and consider for authorization.

o Production to paper the neighbourhood minimum of 2 days prior to filming.

• Painting of existing structures is strictly forbidden.

• Staking is permitted in certain areas only. Please contact your PNE representative to discuss.

• Production to attach a Notice of Filming sign minimum of 2 days prior to filming. Signage is to be placed on the entrance gate and must state date(s) and

times of filming, the name of the production and contact information of Location Manager.
