This exchange must be done at least 72 hours before the start of the original film. If tickets are not of equal value, the additional cost will also be charged.

Animation Taster WorkshopSat 10 June2 hours

This is a fun, hands-on taster workshop. You’ll create drawings and use people and models to produce 3 short pieces of animation: a zoetrope filmstrip, a time-lapse animatic and a stop-motion animation using Dragonframe industry-standard software.

All animation materials are provided, but bring along your own USB/Hard Drive to take your animation work away.

Sat 10 June Show reel of short films made by upcoming animators and film-makers who have studied at D&G College this year. Within the show reel you will see computer generated, rotoscope, drawn and stop-motion animation created to tell a story, convey a message, or develop personal skills. Film-makers have explored both fiction and non-fiction, worked on commercial projects, and sometimes explored special effects.

Former Dumfries and Galloway College student Paul Boyd worked as a Visual Effects Artist on ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ and current students have selected the film as the conclusion to their festival. Written by J.K. Rowling, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ is a visually inventive fantasy adventure, set in 1920s New York, in which a wizard becomes involved in a battle against dark forces that threaten the city.

The result is a radical, up-to-the-minute examination of race in America narrated by Samuel L Jackson.

Film students from Dumfries and Galloway College take over the RBC for the very first Dumfries Student Film Festival. The Festival is a showcase for Dumfries and Galloway College’s student film and animation work.

The student work has been judged by a panel of professional filmmakers and animators, the films will be screened and awards presented at the ‘premiere’ on 9 June at 5.30pm.

This magical collection of short films from around the world will delight children age 3+. A colourful introduction to the cinema experience. There’s a little mouse quietly obsessed with cleanliness, a thrilling high-speed chase through the streets of a French port (on tricycles!) and a reindeer faced with endless avalanches that keep burying his little cabin in the woods.

All these short films are in English or are dialogue free, except one where French is spoken.

Variety is once again the key word in this collection of short films for those aged 8 or older, which present some very different aspects of the world in which we live. There is the story of a little boy whose lifelong dream is to live in the sea with his fishy friends; an Australian-Japanese family learn to cope with their differences through ingenious edible artworks; plus we learn why taking selfies whilst visiting a new planet isn’t always a good idea...

Most of these films are dialogue free, however, in one film subtitles are used to assist those of us whose Japanese language skills are minimal.

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Fry, ‘The Hippopotamus’ is a country manor mystery that also serves as a comedy of manners. Ted Wallace (Roger Allam) is lapsed poet, failed drama critic, redundant husband and hard-working drunk. Fired from his newspaper job Ted is summoned to his friend's country manor to investigate a series of unexplained miracles.

Although the film is animated and rated PG, given the subject matter we recommend it for age 8 and upwards.
