What is a team?

-Academically- Equal number of boys and girls-Musically

The entire sixth grade will be divided into two, heterogeous groups of students.

What is a team?

• There will be a common group of teachers assigned to each team.

• There is a Team Leader assigned to coordinate each team.

• The Team Leader helps to facilitate the needs of the student as well as the concerns of the parents.

A Typical Day at Sells

• 3 Academic Blocks = 6 periods

• Math Block (84 minutes)

• Science or SS (SS Seminar) A-day/B-day (84 minutes) OR unit based rotation.

• Language Arts Block (84 minutes)

• Lunch (30 minutes) = 1 period

• 2 Related Arts Blocks = 2 periods

There are 9 periods in the day.

Music

• Band

• Choir

• Strings (Level 1 or Level 2)

*Music will be taken every other day with SC

SS or SS Seminar

School Climate/Bullying

• Parents and the school need to work together!

• Get involved & stay involved in what your child is doing in middle school!

• Facebook/Cell phones…Be aware of what your child is posting/sending, what’s on their wall!

• Higher rate of bullying on-line/phones.

What The School Is Doing• Proactive programs: Character Pillars/Anti-

bullying programs/High School Role Models/Jr TI.

• Merit system for positive behavior.

• Teacher awareness/involvement.

• Guidance counselor teaching lessons in class, small group, and individual settings.

• Prompt and thorough investigation into reports received. *Student handbook used*

How To Report Bullying

• Student contact with staff member

• Parent contact with school

• On-line reporting system (www.dublinschools.net/sells)

• We can’t help if we don’t know

• Students/parents often don’t report because they fear it will make things worse. This is usually not true.

• Course Selection Sheets were sent home this week with your child.

• Select Music and SS choice.

• Return to your child’s classroom teacher March 11, 2013.
