FIRST DATA

We have a working relationship with First Data,

who provide our card processing infrastructure.

They are a global leader in electronic transaction and

payment services processing, with 28,000 employees

and a presence in over 66 countries and territories

worldwide, including offices in 35 countries across

the EMEA (Europe Middle East & Africa) region.

ALLIED IRISH BANK MERCHANT

SERVICES (AIBMS)

AIB Merchant Services operates on First Data

infrastructure with a European portfolio of 35,000

merchants. We have teamed up with AIB in an

exclusive deal to take advantage of the new Cross

Border Acquiring (CBA) rates to help merchants take

maximum advantage of the recent EU ruling which

began in January 2015

THE MARKET

The European Commission has been locked in a 10

year court case with VISA deeming their interchange

fees uncompetitive and unlawful. VISA decided to settle

out of court and agreed to cap interchange fees across

VISA Europe. The new capped fees are initially only

available across European borders where the customer

and the merchant are registered with banks in different

European countries. This has been extended to include

an acquiring bank based in another European country

which means having an element of the transaction

process in Europe will allow you to access the lower

fees. This change has come into effect for European

countries since January 2015.

THE PROBLEM

All UK merchant banks are scrambling to secure off

shore licencing but this new infrastructure is unstable

and may prolong the processing time of each transaction

making them unable to pass on the savings to their

clients. With the UK having the highest interchange fees

in Europe it is a blow to the merchant banking market

due to their inability to access this scheme.

THE SOLUTION – CROSS BORDER ACQUIRING

Fidelity Payment has an exclusive relationship with EU

based Allied Irish Bank (AIB), enabling Fidelity Payment

to access the lower EU interchange fee now. AIB is a

UK FCA approved bank and based in Ireland and hold a

Cross Border Acquiring licence and are EMV approved.

Cross Border Acquiring means although your

business is taking payments in the UK, we process the

transaction via AIB and benefit from the EU rates. The

funding time is still 2 days as Allied Irish Bank are not

changing any of their infrastructures for this new rate

and have been servicing clients since 1966.
