  • Ductus ArteriosusBlood from the superior vena cava passes through the right ventricles and pulmonary artery through the ductus arteriosus into the descending aorta on its way to get oxygenated in the placenta.

    ****************Blood rich in oxygen and nutrients enters the fetus thru the umbilical vein. Approx. of bld goes to liver , and the rest bypasses the liver and enters the inferior vena cava thru the first shunt, the ductus venosus.From the inf vena cava, to right atrium, most of bld goes directly into left atrium thru the foramen ovale, the second shunt, where it mixes with blod returning from the lungs. Blood is pumped into left ventricle and then into aorta to nourish fetus*
