7zy8Gifts for Kids & Adult

As a charity option, crocheters love to donate to the homeless and the less fortunate. Scarves, hats, mitts, and afghans are the most common. But believe it or not, socks are the most needed. Even though socks are a bit more challenging and time consuming, it is the most appreciative gift for those that need it most. You can tell is someone is homeless by looking at their feet. As much as we want to give quantity, sometimes quality and time is more important.

Yarns to think about are as follows:Caron: Simply Soft, One Pound, JumboBernat: Blanket, Super Value, Chunky, SoxPatons: Canadiana, Classic Wool Worsted, Kroy Socks

7zy8Gifts for the Elderly

As we get older, some of us have to deal with muscle aches, pains, and unfortunate health events. Lets be honest, not all nursing homes and hospitals are cozy and comfortable. Prayer shawls are a great gift idea but so are slippers and beautiful lapghans. As for Slippers, you might want to add soles or something that has a bit of grip. Check out Jeanne’s Article for ideas. Remember to make something light and not too heavy.

Charity means many different things for crocheters. We all have our fa-vourites. From local events to national charities, giving a peice of your-self is really important this time of year.

With the season for giving, we hope that you have time for some per-sonal gift making that can make a difference in someone’s life. Be thoughtful and I hope, personally, that you take the time and thought in making your gifts. It is easy to donate to charity, things you don’t like and the projects just didn’t turn out nicely but please don’t just give away unnessecary items away. Make it from the heart, if you don’t like it, or the colours just don’t look good, there is no shame in frogging it to make it look extra better and try another approach. I know, it’s a huge peeve for many! Trust us, we have done this many times. We all hate frogging but you will thank your heart for it later and the charities will thank you even more for taking that extra time to make your project the best you can do. Clean up those tails for final touch ups.

Many ask Michael and I what we do for our samples that we do for vid-eos. The answer, we give it away to charity. I don’t know how many times we have redone projects simply becuase of the yarn, or the co-lours. We are proud to say, that even us, making a project beautiful, takes a bit more thought and soul.

We hope that the gifts your bring into people lives will be held with thankfulness and love. Your hands, time, and investment deserves much praise. Enjoy the holiday season and may you all spread the gift of the season to others with your passion, love and celebration.

Daniel
