It is with great joy and gratitude towards the Island of Lamu and its inhabitants that we welcome you to the fifth annual Lamu Yoga Festival. We are honored to celebrate life together through 5 days of yoga, culture, food, beach and fun. The word “Yoga” means Union, bring-ing harmony in breath, body and mind. That’s the aim of the Lamu Yoga festival, to bring people from all walks of life to-gether. I feel privileged that the Lamu Yoga festival can be part of this amazing island. Lamu, a muslim island, hosting a yoga festival. A very powerful message to send to East Africa and the world at large! We celebrate harmony in diversity, re-spect each other, work together and live in peace.
This festival would not be possible with-out the help of our amazing teachers, the people of Lamu, the County Government, sponsors, volunteers and yoga lovers.
Thank you for allowing us to promote Lamu as the wellness destination of East Africa and yoga as a healthy lifestyle. Thank you for joining us for the Lamu Yoga Festival and we wish you an inspir-ing and wonderful time.
Monika FauthChairlady,Lamu Yoga Festival
Welcome to the 5th Lamu Yoga Festival! This continues to be one of the most im-portant events for Lamu county and the Lamu Island of Festivals calendar and we are happy that you have chosen to partic-ipate. It is exciting to see so many trav-el from near and far to experience our beautiful island.
Yoga is rapidly growing in Kenya and has become a way of life for many young peo-ple, providing balance in their very hec-tic lives through the various mental and physical activities. The County Govern-ment of Lamu takes pride in hosting this festival and is committed to promote and support yoga, as a way of life. At the same time, we encourage the local community to grasp this opportunity and make it an everyday activity.
Lamu island is a special place. It is ma-jestic, beautiful and removed from the typical way of life as most of us know it,
making it an ideal location to practice yoga. Tucked away in the coast of Kenya, Lamu is an Archipelago of some of the most pristine islands in the world, one can’t help but feel like they’ve stepped away from it all. The pure soothing air, blue-bird skies, and warm, turquoise wa-ters inspire you to realign with nature and breathe life in full. Nowhere else in the country does such place exist.
I take this opportunity to wish you a won-derful experience at the Lamu Yoga Fes-tival as it may change your life in more ways that you can imagine. We hope you will return for another of our many fes-tivals soon.
H.E. Fahim TwahaLamu County Governor
Jambo rafiki! Dear Yogis from Kenya and all corners of the world

Acro YogaBlends the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power if acrobatics and the loving kind-ness of healing arts
Aerial Yoga Aerial Yoga uses Vinyasa Flow yoga tech-niques of breath, alignment, flow and mindfulness. Each participant has their own silk to work from and the suspend-ed yoga hammock acts as an assisting device during various yoga positions to allow for greater range of movement, in-cluding some inversions.
Art of Living Art of Living is an international NGO founded by H.H.Sri Sri Ravi Shankar that offers programs where the breath is the key to a happy, healthy and energetic life. They will be offering workshops on hatha yoga, pranayama, meditation and knowledge at the festival.
Ashtanga YogaAshtanga, which means “eight limbs” in sanskrit, is a fast- paced, intense style of yoga. A set series of poses is performed, always in the same order. This practice is very physically demanding because of the constant movement from one pose to the next and the emphasis on daily practice.
Bikram This yoga is practiced in a 35 C to 37.7 C degree room, which allows for a loosen-ing of tight muscles and profuse sweat-ing, which is thought to be cleansing. The Bikram method is a set series of 26 poses, repeated twice.
CapoeiraCapoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music, and is sometimes referred
to as a game. It was developed in Brazil mainly by African descendants with na-tive Brazilian influences.
Dru Yoga and MeditationDru is based on soft flowing movements, directed breathing and visualization. Dru works on body, mind and spirit—improv-ing strength and flexibility, creating core stability, removing energy blockages, building a heightened feeling of positiv-ity, and deeply relaxing and rejuvenating your whole being.
Five Tibetan RitesThis yoga is a series of poses, marking the birth of the Tibetan Rites. The Rites are said to strengthen and energize the body and slow down the aging process. They were specifically designed to strengthen our chakras.
Freedom Dance/Dance YogiA mix of free-flowing dance movement and simple choreography that incorpo-rates yoga stretching with hip hop, tra-ditional African dance (East and West African dance styles). Dance Yogi, which is using asana to move into dance com-binations as well as the structure of the yoga practice which involves attention to breath, meditation and savasana at the end with a dynamic thread of yoga-styled dance woven through the practice.
Hatha Yoga Hatha is a very general term that can en-compass many of the physical kinds of yoga. Hatha style is generally slow-paced and gentle and provide a good introduc-tion to the basic yoga poses

Dharma Yoga is a devotional practice that emphasizes good health, a clear mind and a kind heart. The method weaves together many teach-ings in order to bring all students closer to the goal of Self-realization. The practice is appropriate for students of all levels, from beginner to lifelong practitioners.
