INTRODUCING FEMI JOHNSON & COMPANY LIMITED

FEMI JOHNSON & COMPANY LTD (referred to in the industry- as ‘FJC’) is Nigeria’s foremost firm of

Incorporated Insurance Brokers.

Incorporated on the 5th of August 1970 as a Private Limited Liability Company, the firm operates

under the provisions of the Nigerian Insurance Act of 2003.

A corporate member of the Nigerian Corporation of Registered Insurance Brokers, Femi Johnson &

Company Limited (having provided 2 Past Presidents and Regular Council Membership) remains the

leading firm of Insurance Brokers in Nigeria today with a history of forty years of providing innovative

and dedicated Insurance and Risk Management solutions and services to our clients.

HISTORY

The firm commenced operations on the 1st of January 1970 with an authorized and paid share capital

of N 2,000 and has grown to become the model insurance broking firm in Nigeria, and the West

African Sub Region handling premiums in excess of N1.4 billion annually with a current paid-up share

capital of N100 million.

From inception, the firm benefited immensely from the dynamism and foresight of its founder, the Late

Mr. Femi Johnson (FCIB) (1934 – 1987), widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest Insurance Broking

practitioners with an international repute for adherence to the highest standards of Professional

Practice, Ethics and above all Integrity; principles which remain the guiding tenets of our firm.

‘FJC’ was the first firm of Insurance Brokers in Nigeria to fully computerize her operations in 1978

and, ever since, has remained in the forefront of setting industry standards for development, adoption

and deployment of the most up-to-date technology in the delivery of quality broking services to its

clients.

FJC currently has Professional Indemnity cover up to NGN 800,000,000 which clearly stands out

within the Nigeria Insurance Broking industry.

Page 18: FEMI JOHNSON & COMPANY LIMITED - MARSH …marshfjc.com/FJC Brochure.pdfThrough our market leading brands, colleagues in more than 100 countries help clients identify, plan for and

Surety is a credit instrument known as a bond guarantee. It is not insurance. A firm called a "surety

company" guarantees that a business corporation called a "principal" will carry out an obligation to a third

party, called an "obligee." Two examples of such obligations include:

• A contractor constructing a site according to the contract specifications for the owner; and

• A firm supplying goods within a predetermined time frame to a third party.

If the principal does not fulfill its bonded obligation, the obligee can make a claim demanding that the surety

company satisfy the obligation or pay the bond penalty. The surety company has the right to reimbursement

from the principal in the case of a paid loss or claim.

Trade Credit

Marsh's Trade Credit Practice develops solutions tailored to clients' individual credit exposures. Clients can

choose to cover their entire portfolio, or a select group of their largest customers.

As companies have expanded and globalised over the past 20 years, many have found that using trade

credit insurance to protect accounts receivables from unforeseen losses due to non payment can be critical to

their success. Marsh's Trade Credit Practice helps companies to operate through unpredictable economic

cycles by providing solutions to manage receivables' risks and a wide range of other trade finance issues.

Programme Highlights

Trade credit insurance can help a company protect accounts receivable from losses caused by insolvency,

protracted default or political events.

Political Risk

Marsh's Political Risk Practice specialises in advising corporations on international risk mitigation. We

offer consulting services to assist risk and finance managers in determining effective political risk

management strategies.

In a world full of political uncertainty, mitigation of political risk is a significant factor in the success of

overseas projects, investments and contracts. By obtaining coverage against possible losses resulting from

political actions or inaction by the host government, more focus can be placed on measures to increase

In addition to traditional political risk insurance programs, risk transfer strategies have become increasingly more flexible

and can be adapted to better suit the needs of our clients. They can be channeled through captive

management companies, special purpose vehicles or can be used by financial institutions to mitigate the

political risk in their portfolio of emerging market assets. Through creativity and flexibility, the Political Risk

group has placed difficult risks and developed customised solutions to complex client issues.

Our placement and service teams are based across the globe and in Africa we have a particularly strong

team available to clients.

Professional Liability

Professional liability has become the "products liability" of the service sector. Professional liability coverage

can protect against liability and help defray the cost of defence following a claim for an error, omission or

negligence in the performance of professional services.

Newer insurance policies also provide coverage for privacy violations and breaches of computer security.

Companies that view their exposures as either manufacturing or product-oriented may be surprised to find

themselves exposed to professional liability risks through outsourcing, online commerce and intellectual

property issues.

Page 19: FEMI JOHNSON & COMPANY LIMITED - MARSH …marshfjc.com/FJC Brochure.pdfThrough our market leading brands, colleagues in more than 100 countries help clients identify, plan for and

And because professional liability risks are complex and extensive, identifying and quantifying these liabilities

requires a high degree of expert scrutiny. That's why, in addition to coverage specialists, Marsh employs

attorneys, economists and actuaries to assess a company's exposure from several different vantage points.

Evolving exposures can be anticipated and risk transfer solutions designed to fit your needs. Our teams of
