  • February and March Pastor’s Care Note.

Ash Wednesday begins on Valentine’s Day. Think about it! What is God saying to us this year, in particular?

“The central event of the Christian faith is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the core of the apostolic preaching and the central celebration of the church’s worship life. Lent is the preparation for the celebration of the mys-tery of redemption.” – page 305 LBW Manual on the Liturgy.

The ‘heart of God’ is exposed in the Lent/Easter proclamation. And faith reveals God has a beautiful heart! "For God so loved the world that he gave his only and unique Son, so that everyone who trusts in him may have eternal life, in-stead of being utterly destroyed.” (John 3:16 Complete Jewish Bible).

Ash Wednesday is February 14. God shares his love with us! But it also begins a more focused time for us to ex-amine our love for God.

Please make a point to come to worship on Wednesday, February 14 at 7pm for Ash Wednesday Service. Help us begin a special time of focus on God’s love for us and our love for God.

Holy Week is March 25—31. “ St. Augustine called Holy Week the Great Week because of the great things that were accomplished during these days. The purpose of Holy Week was to set the facts of the Gospel before the wor-shippers. But it is more than a pious remembrance. More than a series of commemorations. Holy Week provides the faithful a unified sequence of sacramental acts whereby we are able to commit ourselves afresh to Christ. Unless the Church can learn to identify itself with Christ in His death and resurrection, it cannot accomplish its mission.”—page 310, LBW Manual on the Liturgy.

We, the Church, are called to not only proclaim the Gospel. We are called to be the Gospel…to embody it in the world as though Christ himself were present. The CREASTERS (Christmas and Easter) Christians enjoy the fun, happy occa-sions of being the Gospel. But we are called to be braver than that. We are called to enter into the darkness of life with the light of faith. Jesus’ example during Holy Week emboldens us to more faithfully be the Church among the downtrod-den, betrayed, and persecuted of this world.

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday (March 25) and includes Holy Thursday (March 29) and Good Friday (March 30). Please go the distance with us this year as we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

    --Pastor Joel

This year’s MSG (Middle School Gathering) was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Omaha on January 13-14. The theme was GO! The two days focused on the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:16-20. The kids did service projects around the city of Omaha at Sienna Francis House and at the Open Door Mission. Eye opening to say the least. They also took part in tying a mountain of blankets for underprivileged kids. The group received a grant from the Nebraska Synod for them to look and see what needs aren't being met in their community. They are to take the grant and GO and do something about it. Our group decided to focus on personal care items for people in the community who are in need of such things. They are looking for a Thrivent member who would be willing to do an action team to add $250.00 to the grant they received so they can do even more. Any Thrivent member willing to help these kids, please contact the church office.

What an awesome bunch of kids. I am so proud of them. They represented themselves, their churches and communities with the responsibility and respect for others that everyone should have. They all took part and worked diligently at the service centers they were assigned to. Hopefully you've had a chance to ask them about their weekend. Thanks for letting me sponsor them, I'd do it again.

Greetings to all, David "Deuce" Manzer II, Life Scout with your Boy Scout Troop 164 has begun efforts to build an Outdoor Worship Area with Fire Pit for Redeemer as his Eagle Scout Service Project. The goal is to have this area built by the end of March so that we can have our sunrise worship service on Easter around the fire pit. However, the only way he can make this come to is with your help. He is requesting cash donations for a total of $3,100. All donations can be made to the church office. He would like volun-teers to help with the build on one of the three phases. You can see the tri-fold board outside the sanc-tuary when he hopes to work on each phase. He also would like for anyone to volunteer to make cof-fee and hot chocolate for those working on the area. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, David "Deuce" Manzer II, Life Scout Troop 164.

Sunday, February 4th is Boy Scout Sunday and Deuce will be having a pancake feed from 9:30AM to 1:00PM in the fellowship hall to raise money for his project. Freewill Donation.

    Please come and support him.

    Thanks
