New GriefShare Group Beginning GriefShare is a special weekly support group open to residents, staff, and their families. We also welcome back anyone who has done GriefShare in the past. The group begins on Friday, February 7th at 10:00 AM in the Scalies Private Dining Room (Stonecroft) and will run for thirteen weeks. You can join any Friday. Ping Pong Tournament – Something New and

Fun!

A Ping Pong Tournament is scheduled for

Friday, February 21st at 10:00 AM in the GCC

Gathering Room. Sign-up for the tournament

will be at 10:00 AM the morning of the

tournament and the tournament will be

played to its final victory. There are paddles

for all and chairs in the peanut gallery.

Observers are welcome to come and go, and

all may enjoy a donut. Duration of the

tournament depends on the number of

participants, with a best of three games per

set. Serving rules will be lenient for Tel Hai

Elder Statesmen and Stateswomen. Come!

Annual ‘Food Drive’ benefiting the Honey

Brook and Twin Valley Food Pantries

Join Tel Hai in our annual ‘Food Drive’

benefiting the Honey Brook Food Pantry and

Twin Valley Food Pantry from March 1st -

March 15th, 2020. Tel Hai is requesting the

donation of non-perishable food items and

supplies including canned tuna, peanut

butter, cereals, pasta, rice, canned fruits

and vegetables, laundry detergent, dish

soap, other soap, paper towels and toilet

paper. Only non-expired, un-opened items

accepted. Drop off at Garrett Community

Center, Auditorium/Chapel, and StoneCroft

Commons lobbies.

Tai Chi Annoucement

Tai Chi will continue after the current

session ends on March 5th. Barring changes

due to weather, the next session will be

March 12th – April 30th. This 8-week session

will be $30 and will be billed directly to your

Tel Hai account. All classes will be held on a

Thursday, and there are three time options

(11:45 AM to 12:45 PM; 1:00 to 2:00 PM; 2:15

to 3:15 PM). Registration begins Monday,

March 2nd, 8:00 AM. Registration must be

made with Gwynne and acceptance will be

determined by the time of receipt. Please

Friday March 13th, 7:00 PM: CWPA

The Biggest Little Farm (2019). A

fascinating and delightful documentary that

chronicles the eight-year quest of a

determined, idealistic young couple as they

trade city living for 200 acres of barren

farmland and a dream to harvest in harmony

with nature. Through dogged perseverance

and embracing the opportunity provided by

nature's conflicts, the Chesters unlock and

uncover a biodiverse design for living that

exists far beyond their farm, its seasons,

(2019). In this heartwarming drama,

journalist Lloyd Vogel sets out to profile the

host of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood"; the

iconic Fred Rogers. After approaching his

subject with skepticism, Vogel changes his

outlook when he forms a friendship with

PERFORMING ART SERIES

Monday, March 9th, 7:30 PM: CWPA

Ron Bellamy, solo Hand Bell Concert with

piano accompaniment. Ron Bellamy (Ringing

Ron) began ringing handbells in 1979, and has

been a performer and clinician for Handbell

Exploration, the Handbell Musicians of

America, and Solo/Ensemble Extravaganza.

A former member of the Philadelphia

Handbell Ensemble, he is also a solo handbell

artist, and was a featured soloist at the

2013 Handbell Musicians of America Area 2

Seminar in Oswego, NY. Ron is presently

directing five handbell choirs at four

Lancaster area churches. He has conducted

several massed ringing festivals, including

the Nittany Valley Handbell Festival, and he

has directed the Bucknell University Rooke

Chapel Ringers on several occasions in Dr.

William Payn's absence. Ron was the

conductor for the 4th annual Webster NY

Challenge Ring and the Western PA Handbell

Festival, both held in March of 2014. A

graduate of the University of Scranton and

a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, his full-time

employment is in the field of accounting and

finance.

Saturday, March 28th, 1:00 PM: CWPA

David Kim (violin) and Jeffrey Uhlig (piano).

Violinist David Kim was named concert-

master of The Philadelphia Orchestra in

1999. Born in Carbondale, IL in 1963, he

started playing the violin at the age of

three, began studies with the famed

pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of

eight, and later received his bachelor’s and

master’s degrees from the Juilliard School.

Mr. Kim is entertaining as well as amazing.

Friday, April 3rd, 7:30 PM: CWPA

Tempest di Mare, a Philadelphia Baroque

Orchestra, will provide music that is

powerful and profound, yet accessible and

joyful. With every performance, Tempesta

di Mare creates a sense of discovery. This

stems from the ensemble's signature

interpretive approach to baroque music as a

dramatic, rhetorical craft, like oration and

acting, an approach shared by the composers

and performers when the music was new.

Tempesta has been described as “The model

of a top-notch period orchestra . . .” We hope

you will join us for this unique opportunity.

Silver, Wood & Ivory

Several residents have requested another

dinner/concert at the home of Silver, Wood

& Ivory, but we have received word that

they are NOT doing dinner/concerts this

year until further notice.

Trip to Bavaria – Space Available!

What do the Bavarian Alps, Innsbruck,

Salzburg, Castles, Churches, and the Passion

Play have in common? They all represent a

once-in-a-lifetime trip that you could

experience in August 2020. There still is

time and room for you to register to be a

part of this amazing trip hosted by Chaplain

Ladies Day Out to Dutch Apple

The feature is, “Grumpy Old Men” and we will

be attending the matinee. Pick up a brochure

to register for this Wednesday, March 4th,

2020 trip. Elite Coach will be our mode of

transportation. Note that the February 1st

deadline is almost here.

Widows Banquet held at Rockville

Mennonite Church

Rockville Mennonite Church is again hosting

a special banquet/musical presentation for

our widows, and they ask that you make your

reservation through Judy, 610-273-9333,

ext. 2154. You will have 2 dates to choose

from – either March 5th or March 6th and

the event starts at 5:00 PM. We need to

have all reservations in to Judy no later than

February 26th. Tel Hai is offering

transportation both days, and there will be a

transportation fee after the trip. There are

no brochures for this trip so you will need to

call Judy directly for your reservation, and

she will need to know what date you pick, and

if you would like Tel Hai transportation. This

event has become very popular over the

years, and reservations may need to be

turned down once the church is full, so if you

are interested in attending, please call Judy

early.

LIFE ENRICHMENT SPEAKERS

Monday, March 3rd, 1:00 PM: CWPA

Join Barbara and Bruce McCleary for an

armchair travelogue of their recent cruise

to South and Central America. They visited

ports in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa

Rica, Honduras, Belize, and Mexico. The trip

included a transit of the Panama Canal.

Monday, March 9th, 1:00 PM: CWPA

Japanese/American Internment Camp

Herb and Miiko Horikawa, both American

citizens, were born in California. However,

because they looked like the enemy during

WWII, they were included among the

120,000 Japanese Americans living on the

West Coast who were forcibly removed from

their homes and incarcerated in America’s

Concentration Camps. They will present a

program of their experiences during that

time. Herb and Miiko are Tel Hai residents.

Monday, March 16th – Ross Kershey begins

a 5 week lecture series. 1:00 PM, CWPA

There will be a $30 fee for the 5-week

series and residents will be billed. Please sign

Samantha Power [Obama’s Ambassador to

the UN] deserves more than routine

comment; a brief excerpt will suggest the

Samantha Power, red haired Irish immigrant,

naturalized American citizen, journalist,

idealist, author, ambassador, sports

enthusiast, wife and mother, began her

Americanization in Pittsburgh by wearing a

Pirates T-shirt to her middle school class.

Determined on a career in journalism after

Yale, she managed to steal a sheet of Foreign

Policy stationery from the editor’s office,

type a letter of recommendation to the head

of the United Nations press office and

obtain a legitimate UN press pass. (To her

credit, Samantha admits to still feeling

guilty at thus violating the trust of her

editor.) Then it was off to Bosnia to report

on the “ethnic cleansing” atrocities there.

Intimate personal glimpses of the actual

workings of high level government staffs,

relationships at the UN with international

diplomats, and the balancing of career

demands with family and baby-nursing

schedules play many variations on the theme

of “don’t ignore the women” in this addictive

memoir. A stronger-willed reader than this

one may be able to put it down at bedtime.
